Induced meiotic gynogenesis in shovelnose sturgeon

Aquaculture International, 1998
Gynogenesis was induced in three shovelnose sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus pIatorynchus) by heat shock after egg activation with UV-treated paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) milt. Ultraviolet dosage (J m−2) for the pooled milt samples was calculated using the following linear regression equation: Dosage = 2405.27 − 352.80X 19.78X2 (X = percent transmittance of ...

Gynogenesis in Salamanders Related to Ambystoma jeffersonianum

Science, 1964
The oocytes of naturally occurring triploid females of the Ambystoma jeffersonianum complex each contain 84 lampbrush chromosomes. This constitutes hexaploidy ( n = 14). The chromosomes are joined into pairs by chiasmata and form 42 bivalents.

The Evolutionary Ecology of Gynogenesis

Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics, 2005
▪ Abstract  Most metazoans engage in recombination every generation. In theory this is associated with considerable cost, such as the production of males, so that asexual organisms, which do not pay this cost, should be able to invade populations of sexuals.

Androgenesis, gynogenesis, and parthenogenesis haploids in cucurbit species

Plant Cell Reports, 2016
Haploids and doubled haploids are critical components of plant breeding. This review is focused on studies on haploids and double haploids inducted in cucurbits through in vitro pollination with irradiated pollen, unfertilized ovule/ovary culture, and anther/microspore culture during the last 30 years, as well as comprehensive analysis of the main ...

Induced Diploid Gynogenesis in White Bass

The Progressive Fish-Culturist, 1998
Abstract Optimal conditions were determined for induction of meiotic diploid gynogenesis in white bass Morone chrysops. In two series of experiments, ultraviolet light (UV) irradiation doses to inactivate sperm genome and optimal temperature shock to restore diploidy were established.

Haploid induction in onion via gynogenesis

2003
Onion (Allium cepa L.) is a biennial monocotyledoneus plant belonging to the Alliaceae family. Within the Allium species onion is the most economically important with a total world acreage of 2,7 million ha dry onions and production of over 46 million ton in 2001 (FAO, 2001).The demand for specific varieties adapted to local agroclimatic conditions is ...

Gynogenesis in the vine cacti Hylocereus and Selenicereus (Cactaceae)

Plant Cell Reports, 2009
Gynogenesis was investigated on the allotetraploid Selenicereus megalanthus and the diploid Hylocereus polyrhizus and Hylocereus undatus vine cactus species. Unpollinated ovules from developing flower buds containing microspores at middle uninucleate developmental stage were cultured on MS basal medium containing 2,4-D/TDZ with different sucrose ...

Gynogenesis in Hybrids within the Pleuronectidae

1974
Hybrids between different genera within the flatfish family Pleuronectidae are commonplace. Naturally-occurring hybrids between the plaice (Pleuronectes platessa) and the flounder (Platichthys flesus) are common in the Baltic, and can be produced with ease by artificial fertilization of plaice eggs with flounder spermatozoa (Pape, 1935; von Ubisch ...

Gynogenesis and sex determination in Atlantic Halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus)

Aquaculture, 2006
Abstract Gynogenesis refers to a process of uniparental inheritance whereby the resulting offspring retain only maternal DNA. It has been used to identify sex-determining mechanisms in fish and to produce all-female populations for aquaculture. The objective of this study was to develop a protocol for the production of gynogenetic Atlantic halibut ...
