FGD gypsum based composite for non-structural applications in construction

open access: yes, 2010
There are many by products created in industry that can be recovered or valued for the creation of new products allowing, in this way, the decrease of environmental damages caused by its disposal in landfills. This research work aims at the valuing of several industrial by-products, such as: flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum from exhaust gases of ...

Material Properties of Basalt-Fiber-Reinforced Gypsum-Based Composites Made with Metakaolin and Silica Sand

open access: yesMechanics of Composite Materials, 2020
The effects of metakaolin (MK) and basalt fiber (BF) on the performance of gypsum-based composites were investigated. BFs 6 and 12 mm long were used in concentrations of up to 0.8 wt.%. Mechanical tests were conducted on both dry and water-saturated specimens. It was found that their flexural and compressive strengths increased with content of BFs to 0.

Navigating Classical and Nonclassical Realms of Nucleation and Crystallization

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Classical nucleation and growth theories have long been foundational, yet recent nonclassical concepts have challenged and refined our understanding of solid‐state genesis. This paradigm shift introduced new, often ambiguous vocabulary. Here, we clarify key concepts, correct common misconceptions, and provide a terminological field guide across systems,
