Context of diversification of the viviparous Gyrodactylidae (Platyhelminthes, Monogenoidea) [PDF]
Using four criteria proposed a decade ago by Brooks & McLennan to identify a case of adaptive radiation indicates that the evolutionary history of the viviparous clade of the Gyrodactylidae is dominated by nonvicariant processes. The viviparous clade, with 446 species, has significantly more species than its sister clade (one species), and high ...

On the evolution within the family Gyrodactylidae (Monogenea)
On the basis of six main types of protonephridial systems in the genus Gyrodactylus and results from further studies of the protonephridial systems in other gyrodactylid genera and other monogenean families, evolutionary lines within the Gyrodactylidae and the origin of the genera Ooegyrodactylus, Swingleus, Gyrdicotylus and Polyclithrum are discussed.

Abstract Most gyrodactylids have a haptor armed with a pair of hamuli, two connecting bars and 16 marginal hooks. In some gyrodactylids, however, the haptor is disc-shaped and reinforced by additional sclerites. The genus Polyclithrum has arguably the most elaborate haptor in this group.
