Checklists of Parasites of Farm Fishes of Babylon Province, Iraq
Literature reviews of all references concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes in fish farms of Babylon province, middle of Iraq, showed that a total of 92 valid parasite species are so far known from the common carp (Cyprinus carpio), the grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), and the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) as well as from three ...

Fine Structure of the Gastrodermis of Two Species of Gyrodactylus (Monogenoidea: Polyonchoinea, Gyrodactylidae) [PDF]
Transmission electron microscopy was used to determine the organization and fine structure of the gastrodermis of two species of Gyrodactylus. The gastrodermis consists of a syncytial epithelium characterized by large widely spaced nuclei, two types of vesicular structures, mitochondria with tubular cristae, Golgi complexes, and scattered rough ...

The Monogenean Parasite Fauna of Cichlids: A Potential Tool for Host Biogeography
We discuss geographical distribution and phylogeny of Dactylogyridea (Monogenea) parasitizing Cichlidae to elucidate their hosts′ history. Although mesoparasitic Monogenea (Enterogyrus spp.) show typical vicariant distribution, ectoparasitic representatives from different continents are not considered sister taxa, hence their distribution cannot result

Survival, feeding and embryo development of Gyrodactylus gasterostei (Monogenea: Gyrodactylidae)
Viviparous gyrodactylid monogeneans which are detached from their host may form an important source of infection in fish communities. This is particularly significant for these ectoparasites which have no specific free-living stage and where transmission usually occurs through transfer of adult parasites when fish come into close contact. In this study,

Monogeneans are ectoparasites that in high densities, can cause harm and even death to their hosts. Therefore, treatment methods are continuously evaluated. The current study aims to determine the LC50 of ionic silver and silver‐engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) (nAg) in the monogenean Macrogyrodactylus congolensis and report on the toxicological effects

Occurance of Gyrodactylus spp (Monogenea: Gyrodactylidae) from Iranian freshwater fishes
Thirty three Gyrodactylus spp have been found on the gills and body surface of both wild and farmed freshwater fishes in Iran. Among them nine species have been identified up to the species level, which are new locality records. The identification of the others, mainly belong to endemic wild freshwater fishes, need further studies.

Abstract Phoxinus minnows are small freshwater fish found throughout Eurasia. The taxonomy of this genus is still under investigation, and new species are regularly described. They are frequently introduced outside their native range due to their use as live bait for angling, and such fish introductions can have diverse impacts on the recipient areas ...
