Phylogenetic status and historical origins of the oviparous and viviparous gyrodactylids (Monogenoidea, Gyrodactylidea)

open access: closedZoologica Scripta, 2020
AbstractPhylogenetic analyses of sequences of the 18S rDNA and MT‐CO2 gene fragments indicated that the oviparous and viviparous gyrodactylid‐like monogenoids formed independent monophyletic clades within the Order Gyrodactylidea, supporting the reinstatement of the Oogyrodactylidae and limiting the Gyrodactylidae to the viviparous species.

Nestedness in assemblages of gyrodactylids (Monogenea: Gyrodactylidea) parasitising two species of cyprinid – with reference to generalists and specialists

open access: closedInternational Journal for Parasitology, 2000
The structure of gyrodactylid assemblages in individual fishes of two species of cyprinid was determined. A total of 100 specimens of minnow, Phoxinus phoxinus, and 137 specimens of roach, Rutilus rutilus, were investigated for presence of gyrodactylids. Host specificity, specialists vs. generalists, was noted in each host fish.

The biology of Gyrdicotylus gallieni (Gyrodactylidea), an unusual viviparous monogenean from the African clawed toad, Xenopus laevis

open access: closedJournal of Zoology, 1987
The viviparous gyrodactylid monogenean Gyrdicotylus gallieni, a parasite of Xenopus laevis, is redescribed. The site of infection is shown to be the mouth, and not the stomach and intestine, as recorded in the original description. In most respects G.

Neotropical Monogenoidea. 50. Oviparous gyrodactylids from loricariid and pimelodid catfishes in Brazil, with the proposal of Phanerothecioides n. g., Onychogyrodactylus n. g. and Aglaiogyrodactylus n. g. (Polyonchoinea: Gyrodactylidea)

open access: closedSystematic Parasitology, 2006
The diagnosis of Phanerothecium Kritsky & Thatcher, 1977 is amended, and Phanerothecioides n. g., Onychogyrodactylus n. g. and Aglaiogyrodactylus n. g., all comprised of oviparous gyrodactylids (Monogenoidea: Polyonchoinea), are proposed to accommodate 11 of the 15 species (14 new to science) herein described and/or reported from loricariid and ...

Scleroductus (Platyhelminthes: Monogenea) infecting Rhamdia spp. (Siluriformes: Heptapteridae) in Mexico, and their phylogenetic position within Gyrodactylidea

open access: closedJournal of Helminthology
Abstract Gyrodactylidae Cobbold, 1864 is a monophyletic family of hyperviviparous species, with 36 genera and approximately 700 species. Here, we focused on one of these genera – namely Scleroductus Jara & Cone, 1989 – characterizing its morphological variation systematically and testing its phylogenetic position in relation to other genera in ...
