Gyroid Metamaterial Fabrication

2014
The basic steps to produce an optical metamaterial from block copolymer self-assembly can be summarized in the following: (a) self-assembly of gyroid block copolymer in thin films; (b) selective degradation and removal of one of the minor phases; (c) back filling of the so created nanoporous template via electrodeposition; (d) removal of the remaining ...

Electrolyte Diffusion in Gyroidal Nanoporous Carbon

The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2015
The structural properties of gyroidal nanoporous carbon (GNC) materials and their diffusion properties are investigated using a combination of molecular dynamics methods. We consider nine different GNC materials with variable pore geometry and pore size to establish that the local curvature induced by the presence of specific carbon ring size imposes ...

Boundary Frustration in Double-Gyroid Thin Films

ACS Macro Letters
Self-consistent field theory for thin films of AB diblock polymers in the double-gyroid phase reveals that in the absence of preferential wetting of monomer species at the film boundaries, films with the (211) plane oriented parallel to the boundaries are more stable than other orientations, consistent with experimental results.

Flexible and Stretchable Gyroid Metamaterials

2014
For versatile and practical applications, metamaterials are required to be robust and readily integrated to other systems, adapting their conformation to various geometries. For this reason stretchable and flexible metamaterials can be advantageous in many applications.

Multi-Domain Gyroid Optical Metamaterials

2018
In this chapter, we investigate the optical properties of multi-domain gold gyroid optical metamaterials fabricated from the alternating gyroid phase of a 80 kg mol\(^{-1}\) polyisoprene-b-polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (ISO) triblock terpolymer. The specular reflection of the isotropic metamaterial is measured under a range of angles of incidence ...

Biomimetic chiral gyroids for photonic microstructures

2013
This thesis investigates the use of biomimetic structures known as the gyroid network for nanophotonic applications. These biomimetic nanostructures are found in the green butterfly called Callophrys rubi. This research thesis demonstrated the replication of these bio inspired designs at microscopic scales using 3D laser nano-fabrication technology ...

Single-Domain Gyroid Optical Metamaterials

2018
In this chapter, we demonstrate that the observed linear dichroism in single-domain gyroid optical metamaterials fabricated using an 80 kg mol\(^{-1}\) polyisoprene-b-polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (ISO) triblock terpolymer is a result of the termination of the single gyroid morphology at the surface of the metamaterial.
