Clin‐STAR Corner: Practice Changing Advances at the Interface of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and Geriatrics

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Artificial intelligence (AI) methods, including machine learning (ML), are transforming healthcare by enabling personalized interventions that integrate multimodal data to support rehabilitation, preventive care, and remote monitoring. Despite their broad potential, older adults remain underrepresented in model development, raising concerns ...

Development of a reliable adaptive estimation approach for a low‐cost attitude and heading reference system

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation
A main challenge within inertial navigation systems involves attitude determination, which refers to the process of estimating the angles that define orientations.

Comparison of Compensation Mechanism Between an NMR Gyroscope and an SERF Gyroscope -- Equivalence of NMR and SERF gyroscopes

open access: yes, 2016
There are two kinds of atomic vapor cell gyroscopes, one is nuclear-magnetic-resonance (NMR) gyroscope and the other is spin-exchange-relaxation-free (SERF) gyroscope. We demonstrate that there is a common model for these two kinds of gyroscope. The output signals of NMR and SERF gyroscopes are compared directly, which provides an important guidance ...

Talking gender, ethnicity race, and change: How mothers scaffold girls' identity meaning‐making during puberty

open access: yesJournal of Research on Adolescence, Volume 36, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Early adolescence is marked by intensified identity exploration, yet little research has examined how meanings of gender and ethnic‐racial identity are co‐constructed within family relationships during the pubertal transition. The present qualitative study investigated how mothers and daughters construct and negotiate meanings of gender ...

Static and Dynamic Analysis of Porous Gas Bearings Lubricated With Air, Refrigerant R‐134a, Helium and Hydrogen

open access: yesLubrication Science, Volume 38, Issue 5, Page 301-326, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Porous gas bearings (PGBs) enable high‐speed, oil‐free operation in modern rotating machinery. This study develops a coupled thermo‐hydrodynamic (THD) model for a cylindrical porous gas bearing lubricated with four working fluids—air, R‐134a, helium and hydrogen.

Martian Magnetotail Neutral Sheet Asymmetry Driven by Heavy Planetary Pickup Ions

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract In the induced magnetotail of Mars, the neutral sheet is an important channel for atmospheric ion escape, yet the role of heavy planetary pickup ions in shaping its geometry has been unclear. Using three‐dimensional hybrid simulations, we demonstrate that these ions induce a global neutral sheet asymmetry via mass loading.

Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 37, 2 July 2026.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

The perpendicular gyroscope: modal analysis of plate, beam and gyroscope multistructures

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences
This paper presents a study of the perpendicular gyroscope, which is formed of two orthogonal beams, a flexural plate and a gyroscope. Two sets of chiral-torsional boundary conditions are derived to analytically model the dynamic effects of the gyroscope while taking into account the broken symmetries of the system.

Agreement of imageless navigation‐derived pelvic tilt measurements with radiographic and CT‐based measurements in direct anterior total hip arthroplasty: A prospective single‐center study

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, Volume 13, Issue 3, July 2026.
Abstract Purpose Pelvic tilt (PT) is a major determinant of functional acetabular orientation, affecting implant stability and impingement risk. Although imageless navigation systems are increasingly used to guide intraoperative cup orientation, their validity in measuring supine PT remains unclear.
