Consideration is given to the nonlinear terms in the differential equations governing the motion of gyroscopes under constant acceleration and a “correcting” torque. Unstable oscillations are noted when a correcting torque is present and the nonlinear terms are included.

This paper investigates the dynamics of a novel “multisensor” comprising a two-axis gyroscope and a single-axis linear accelerometer. The theoretical analysis indicates that the gyroscope has two modes of operation, untuned and tuned, offering, respectively, angular rate and angular displacement measurement capability, depending on the damping and ...

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1983
The paper examines the performance of a new two axis dynamically tuned gyroscope. Two types of feedback loop are described. In the first design the control force maintains the sensitive element in a near null position and provides a direct measure of the applied rate. Errors arising because of mistuning and damping are evaluated.

Abstract After a brief review of the fundamental kinetic equations of gyroscope motion, the following topics are considered: (a) The erection of an electrically driven gyroscope when an electrical torque is applied. (b) The effect of inequality of the principal moments of inertia normal to the spin axis, on gyroscope motion.
