First record of Gzhelian and Asselian Fusulinids from the Vazhnan Formation (Sanandaj-Sirjan zone of Iran)

Stratigraphy and Geological Correlation, 2011
The Vazhnan Formation, formerly attributed to the Sakmarian is now shown to be of the Gzhelian-Asselian age. Accordingly it is correlative with the concurrent Zaladou Formation of Central Iran and Dorud Group of Alborz. This suggests a vast transgression that covered the greater part of the Iranian territory in the terminal Carboniferous-initial ...

Orbital‐scale Climate Dynamics may Impact Gzhelian Peatland Wildfire Activity in the Ordos Basin

Acta Geologica Sinica
Abstract The Carboniferous, an important coal‐forming period in geological history, was characterized by extensive vegetation and high oxygen levels. Evidence suggests frequent wildfires took place during this time, especially in peatlands.

Vertebrate Assemblages of the Skelley Limestone (Conemaugh Group : Carboniferous, Gzhelian) in Noble and Muskingum Counties, Ohio

open access: yes, 2022
Three outcrops of the Gzhelian-aged Skelley Limestone (Casselman Formation, Conemaugh Group) were explored for vertebrate macrofossils and vertebrate microremains. The purpose of this exploration was to construct a better ecological history of the marine communities in the Late Pennsylvanian of eastern Ohio.

Revision of Botrychiopsis plantiana: A Key Species of the Gzhelian–Cisuralian in Westernmost Gondwana

Ameghiniana, 2021
Botrychiopsis is an important biostratigraphic index taxon for Carboniferous–early Permian plant fossil successions of Gondwana. Its species have wide geographic distributions, restricted chronostratigraphic ranges, and are associated with diverse groups of plant associations.

Faunal assemblage and correlation of Kasimovian-Gzhelian Transition at Usolka Section, Southern Urals, Russia (a potential candidate forGSSP to define base of Gzhelian Stage)

Stratigraphy, 2008
The conodont species Streptognathodus simulator Ellison 1941 has been proposed to define the Kasimovian-Gzhelian boundary of the global chronostratigraphic scale based in part on its global distribution (Heckel et al. 2005). Traditionally St. simulator has been used as a marker of the base of the Gzhelian Stage in the type sections in Moscow Basin and ...

Fasciculate rugose corals from Gzhelian and Lower Permian strata, Pequop Mountains, northeast Nevada

Journal of Paleontology, 2008
Upper Carboniferous and Lower Permian shallow marine rocks in the Pequop Mountains of northeastern Nevada contain an abundance of fossils, especially fusulinids and fasciculate corals. As the composite stratigraphic section in this area represents the most nearly complete sequence of this type of ...
