Safeguarding a Flagship Species: Integrated Surveillance of Cross‐Species Pathogen Transmission in Giant Panda Ecosystems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Emerging infectious diseases increasingly threaten giant pandas and cohabiting species. This review analyzes pathogen transmission risks from domestic animals, wildlife, and vectors and proposes an integrated genomic surveillance framework for early warning and biodiversity conservation.

Molecular Pharming: Advances, Applications, and Future Prospects in Biotechnology and Medicine

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, Volume 26, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Genetically engineered plants incorporate the use of a novel bioreactor known as molecular pharming, which has a transformative view on the pharmaceutical industry. The technique enables mass production, at a low cost, and reproducibly of a large number of different protein‐based drugs, vaccines, and industrial enzymes. This review‐based study

Modeling Airborne Influenza in Three Dimensions

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2026.
A novel 3D fluid dynamics model demonstrates how influenza outbreaks spread spatially via “epidemic flow.” Simulations reveal that direct contact is the dominant transmission route over aerosol spread, offering a new tool to inform targeted public health interventions and spatially‐aware risk assessment.

Critical Evaluation of the Impact of COVID‐19 Pandemic on Child Health and Wellbeing and Suggested Preparedness for Future Pandemics–A Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims The immediate and long‐term effects of COVID‐19 pandemic on the children go beyond just being a viral infection. A child's mental health and psychological issues like irritability, anxiety, sadness, non‐attentiveness, attention deficit and hyperactive disorder needed evaluation.

Human 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus infection in a premature infant born to an H1N1-infected mother: placental transmission?

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 2011
Human infection with H1N1 virus reached pandemic status by the spring of 2009. Consequently, the rates of morbidity and mortality related with H1N1 2009 infections have been reported to be higher in pregnant women.

Investigating the Impact of Host Genetics on the Risk of Disease Progression in Individuals With Influenza

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
We utilized a novel targeted and genome‐wide association study (GWAS) approach, whereby SNPs with prior evidence in other viral upper respiratory tract infections were assessed in a targeted approach and all other SNPs in a GWAS approach. The probability of making a Type 1 error (i.e., the “alpha”) was split between the targeted analysis and the GWAS ...

Oxidative costs of migration: infections as an added burden

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 2, March 2026.
There is increasing evidence that over‐production of reactive species (RS) constitutes a significant physiological cost for migrating birds. The current view entails that RS during migration originate primarily from increased metabolic activity associated with prolonged flights and refueling.
