α‐d‐2′‐Deoxyadenosine, an irradiation product of canonical DNA and a component of anomeric nucleic acids: crystal structure, packing and Hirshfeld surface analysis

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section C, Volume 80, Issue 2, Page 21-29, February 2024.
α‐d‐2′‐Deoxyadenosine, the anomer of the canonical nucleoside β‐d‐2′‐deoxyadenosine, is a γ‐irradiation product of DNA and a constituent of anomeric DNA. The single‐crystal X‐ray analysis reveals the formation of two conformers with unusual conformational parameters for α‐nucleosides.

History dependence in insect flight decisions during odor tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Natural decision-making often involves extended decision sequences in response to variable stimuli with complex structure. As an example, many animals follow odor plumes to locate food sources or mates, but turbulence breaks up the advected odor signal ...

Prevalence of and Risk Factors for Hyperuricemia in Urban Chinese Check‐Up Population

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Background: The prevalence of hyperuricemia is increasing globally. The health check‐up population is a group of people dedicated to disease prevention in public health. This study aims to estimate the current prevalence of hyperuricemia among the health check‐up population in economically developed areas of China using a healthcare database.

Heated soil-water extract effect on bacterial growth: pH or toxic compounds? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Fire-induced soil changes influence indirectly on soil microbial response, mainly due to pH increases and organic matter alterations. Nevertheless, field studies include overlapped effects and it is difficult distinguish the real origin of microbial ...

Combination of analysis techniques for efficient track reconstruction in high multiplicity events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A novel combination of established data analysis techniques for reconstructing all charged-particle tracks in high energy collisions is proposed. It uses all information available in a collision event while keeping competing choices open as long as ...

The CKM matrix with maximal CP violation from Z(12) symmetry

open access: yes, 2011
The recent accurate determination of the CKM parameters including the maximal CP phase 90 degrees enables us to write down the up-type and down-type quark mass matrices to a high degree of accuracy.

Energy-Momentum Distribution: Some Examples [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
In this paper, we elaborate the problem of energy-momentum in General Relativity with the help of some well-known solutions. In this connection, we use the prescriptions of Einstein, Landau-Lifshitz, Papapetrou and M\"{o}ller to compute the energy ...

Climate change adaptation in practice: People's responses to tidal flooding in Semarang, Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In many places in the world the effects of common floods are increased by climate change. In the area around the Indonesian city of Semarang, the number and effects of tidal flooding are becoming more and more severe.

Calpastatin-mediated inhibition of calpains in the mouse brain prevents mutant ataxin 3 proteolysis, nuclear localization and aggregation, relieving Machado-Joseph disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Machado-Joseph disease is the most frequently found dominantly-inherited cerebellar ataxia. Over-repetition of a CAG trinucleotide in the MJD1 gene translates into a polyglutamine tract within the ataxin 3 protein, which upon proteolysis may trigger ...
