Changes in the Habits of Animals [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1871
YOUR correspondent Mr. Potts in the last number of NATURE furnishes us with a few interesting facts regarding the Kea. In a paper which I read about three years ago to the Dumfries Natural History Society, entitled “The Influence of the Human Period on the Sagacity of Animals,” and subsequently in a letter published in NATURE, vol.

Land of Addicts? An Empirical Investigation of Habit-Based Asset Pricing Models [PDF]

open access: yes
A leading explanation of aggregate stock market behavior suggests that assets are priced as if there were a representative investor whose utility is a power function of the difference between aggregate consumption and a "habit" level, where the habit is ...

A Decoy‐Receptor‐Armed Biomimetic Nanotherapeutic With Inherent Tropism for Conserved Pathogenic Macrophages for Treating Osteoarthritis and Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic doppelgänger nanosystem neutralizes extracellular inflammatory cytokines and silences intracellular pyroptosis, reprogramming pathogenic macrophages to attenuate both joint and spine degeneration. ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) and intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) are debilitating musculoskeletal disorders driven by shared ...

The diagnostic value of a change in bowel habit for colorectal cancer within different age groups

open access: yes, 2020
Background Change in bowel habit as a sole alarm symptom for colorectal cancer is disputed. Objective We investigated the diagnostic value of change in bowel habit for colorectal cancer, particularly as a single symptom and within different age groups ...

Drought Stress Mediated Changes in Food Crops: Mechanisms and Remediation Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a multi‐scale framework for flavonoid‐mediated drought tolerance in staple food crops, integrating ROS redox regulation, antioxidant defense, rhizosphere microbial interactions, and sustainable agronomic practices. This interdisciplinary model provides core insights to develop climate‐resilient cropping systems and enhance global ...

Inspecting Driving Forces of Business Cycles in Korea

open access: yesEast Asian Economic Review, 2019
This paper sets up a new Keynesian model with external habit to explore the role of each shock over business cycles in Korea. The estimated model via maximum likelihood shows that the productivity shock plays a pivotal role in explaining the output ...

Business Cycle Implications of Internal Consumption Habit for New Keynesian Model [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies the implications of internal consumption habit for propagation and monetary transmission in new Keynesian dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (NKDSGE) models.

Bio‐Inspired Oligocellulose‐Regulated Ice‐Water Interfaces Enable Sustained Ion Transport in Frozen Aqueous Zinc Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs), we synthesized a type of oligomeric cellulose (OC‐8) to inhibit ice formation and enlarge the inter‐ice water channel for transportation. Typical confocal fluorescence experiments display the expansion of the ice‐water interface for zinc‐ion transport.

Do Farmers Hedge Optimally or by Habit? A Bayesian Partial-Adjustment Model of Farmer Hedging [PDF]

open access: yes
Hedging is one of the most important risk management decisions that farmers make and has a potentially large role in the level of profit eventually earned from farming.

Transient Sleep Deprivation Induces Persistent Auditory Neuropathy via ROS‐Initiated Neuroinflammation and BK Channel Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep disturbance severity closely tracks hearing loss in a clinical cohort, yet the mechanistic link remains unclear. Acute sleep deprivation is shown to trigger transient cochlear oxidative stress that switches into a self‐sustaining neuroinflammatory state, suppressing BK channels and causing irreversible synaptopathy.
