Abstract Premise Araliaceae comprise a moderately diverse, predominantly tropical angiosperm family with a limited fossil record. Gondwanan history of Araliaceae is hypothesized in the literature, but no fossils have previously been reported from the former supercontinent.

The structure and biosynthetic origin of the enigmatic “yellow affinity substance” (YAS) from the anaerobe thermophile Clostridium thermocellum (now: Acetivibrio thermocellus) were elucidated. YAS is a complex of unusual antibacterial arylpolyene alkaloids (celluxanthenes) that are produced by various cellulolytic anaerobes.

In this study, we present a population dispersal model for Glis glis, a rodent species with a strong preference for forest habitats. The model addresses dispersal processes by incorporating the ecological traits, including habitat preferences of the species, potential growth rate, home range, and carrying capacity.
