Assessment of the habitat fragmentation density in Postãvaru Mountains, Brasov County (Romania) [PDF]

open access: yesCinq Continents, 2013
Postăvaru Mountains are one of the most important touristic areas of Romania and Brașov County. Here, the most important mountain resorts of Romania, Poiana Brașov is located, known for its numerous ski paths.

The effects of landscape variables on the species-area relationship during late-stage habitat fragmentation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Few studies have focused explicitly on the later stages of the fragmentation process, or "late-stage fragmentation", during which habitat area and patch number decrease simultaneously.

Synthesis and Activity‐Based Protein Profiling Identifies Aldo‐Keto Reductase 1C3 as Target Protein of Myxoglucamides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Myxoglucamide A—a novel glycolipopeptide isolated from myxobacteria—was synthesized, and activity‐based protein profiling identified aldo‐keto reductase 1C3 (AKR1C3) as its main target in human cells. Structure‐activity relationship studies, together with biophysical characterization and X‐ray crystallography, elucidated the structural basis of AKR1C3 ...

Consequences of severe habitat fragmentation on density, genetics, and spatial capture-recapture analysis of a small bear population.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Loss and fragmentation of natural habitats caused by human land uses have subdivided several formerly contiguous large carnivore populations into multiple small and often isolated subpopulations, which can reduce genetic variation and lead to precipitous

THE RAPID CHANGES OF THE LANDSCAPE STRUCTURE OF THE MERANTI-DANGKU TROPICAL LOWLAND FOREST IN THE SOUTH SUMATRA PROVINCE, INDONESIA

open access: yesSriwijaya Journal of Environment, 2017
The fragmentation of forest vegetation cover can be measured quantitatively, using tools that can characterize the geometry and spatial properties of the patch or patches of mosaic, which depicts the forest loss and the changes in the temporal pattern.

Seasonal Fluctuations of Plastochromanol‐8 and α‐Tocopherol Amounts in the Leaves of Cecropia Trees

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plastochromanol‐8 (PC‐8) is a homologue of γ‐tocotrienol with a longer side chain (eight instead of three isoprene units) and therefore also a representative of the tocochromanol (vitamin E) group. PC‐8 has been determined in various plants and seeds, with Cecropia sp. leaves showing unusually high levels.

Pearl's causality for integrating ecological datasets: A case study on Myricaria germanica in northern Italy

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Applied ecology can significantly influence policy decisions on environmental issues. Therefore, research in this field should be as transparent and reproducible as possible. Existing expertise from a broad range of disciplines should also be integrated into ecological research to allow researchers to maximize understanding of complex ...

Genetic diversity of calcareous grassland plant species depends on historical landscape configuration

open access: yesBMC Ecology, 2017
Background Habitat fragmentation is considered to be a main reason for decreasing genetic diversity of plant species. However, the results of many fragmentation studies are inconsistent.

Molecular methods for differentiating Phragmites australis subspecies and identification of hybrid stands in the Upper Midwestern United States

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise In North America, Phragmites australis (common reed) has drawn a great deal of research attention. Non‐native P. australis subsp. australis is a noxious weed that has locally displaced native P. australis subsp. americanus in some areas.

Response of Leafhopper Community Structure and Diversity to Fragmented Habitat in a Rocky Karst Desertification Area, Guizhou, China

open access: yesInsects
Guizhou Province is located in the karst area of southern China, where rocky desertification is severe, and habitat fragmentation is prominent. Leafhoppers are widely distributed, with over 2000 recognized species found in China.
