In this article, what is currently understood about the role that early experience has in the formation of habitat preferences is reviewed. The umbrella concept, Natal Habitat Preference Induction (NHPI), which includes a number of effects that natal experience has on later habitat preferences, is discussed.

A Study of Habitat Preferences in the Grey Kangaroo

In a state forestry reserve in south-eastern Queensland, indices of grey kangaroo abundance were obtained from faecal pellet counts and were related to habitat structure by analysis of variance, multiple regression and cluster analysis. Of these, cluster analysis proved the most effective technique.

pH-preferences and habitat selection in carabid beetles

Seven species of carabid beetles were examined in different "pH-Orgeln" for pH-preferences. Five of these species showed significant preferences for specific pH-fields. Presumably, this parameter of distribution found in the laboratory is also effective in the field.

The one modern member of the genus Theropithecus, T. gelada (Primates, Cercopithecidae), inhabits grassland and is highly terrestrial. It is often supposed that Theropithecus oswaldi, one of the most common primates of the Plio-Pleistocene of East and southern Africa, was also a highly terrestrial open habitat species.
