The Source of Arctic Precipitation in HadGEM3‐GC5
Abstract Snow and rain are increasing in the Arctic. Climate model projections indicate a 50% increase in precipitation by the end of the century. This increase is driven by increased local evaporation following reduced sea ice coverage alongside enhanced global evaporation and transport into the Arctic.

Assessment of Tropical Cyclones Over the Australian Region From Downscaled CORDEX‐CMIP6 Simulations
Abstract Tropical cyclones (TCs) cause major economic losses in Australia due to severe winds and floods; however global climate models (GCMs) are too coarse to properly resolve them. Here, we dynamically downscale ERA5 reanalysis and 16 CMIP6 simulations from 11 GCMs using the Conformal Cubic Atmospheric Model (CCAM) to a ∼10 km resolution over the ...

A thermodynamic bound on Hadley cell expansion
Abstract A long-term widening of the Hadley cell with climate warming is a robust feature of observations and global climate model simulations, but it remains poorly constrained. Here we show that the sensitivity is fundamentally bound by the moist thermodynamics of the tropics, largely independent of more complex extratropical dynamics.

The principal modes of variability of the boreal winter Hadley cell
The year‐to‐year variability of the boreal winter mass stream function of the mean meridional circulation (MMC) is dominated by an equatorially asymmetric mode and a symmetric mode. The former (latter) mode is linked with the boreal Hadley cell mainly on the decadal (interannual) time‐scale. The asymmetric mode index (AMI), which indicates the strength

Expansion of the Hadley Cell under Global Warming: Winter versus Summer
A scaling relationship is introduced to explain the seasonality in the outer boundary of the Hadley cell in both climatology and trend in the simulations of phase 3 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3).

Linking Hadley Cell Instability to Slow Equatorial Motions in Reanalysis and CMIP6 Models
A recent theory–originally proposed for tropical depression (TD)‐type waves–is extended to the Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) and convectively‐coupled equatorial Rossby (ER) waves across the Indo‐Western Pacific region using reanalysis and Coupled Model
