An observational analysis of the eastern tropical Pacific Shallow Meridional Circulation using YOTC data and pilot balloons from Isla del Coco, Costa Rica

open access: yesMarine and Fishery Sciences
The low-level circulation of the atmosphere over Isla del Coco has been studied and the presence of a northerly wind at low levels of the atmosphere in the eastern tropical Pacific, in addition to the deep Hadley circulation cell, has been confirmed ...

Effects of Roasting on the Antioxidant and Lipid‐Modulating Activities of Argania spinosa Oil Under Diabetic Conditions

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Roasted and non‐roasted Argania spinosa seed oils were evaluated in streptozotocin‐induced diabetic rats. Biochemical and histopathological analyses assessed glucose regulation, lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, liver enzymes, glycogen content, and tissue architecture.

Role of Continents in Driving the Hadley Cells

open access: yesJournal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 2003
GCM simulations are used to investigate how forcing that originates over land surfaces influences the Hadley circulation. The presence of continental surfaces is found to approximately double the intensity of the winter hemisphere Hadley cell and to halve the intensity of the summer cell. The strengthening of the winter cell occurs because the increase

Dependence of atmospheric transport into the Arctic on the meridional extent of the Hadley cell

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Recent studies have shown a large spread in the transport of atmospheric tracers into the Arctic among a suite of chemistry climate models, and have suggested that this is related to the spread in the meridional extent of the Hadley Cell (HC). Here we examine the HC–transport relationship using an idealized model, where we vary the mean circulation and

Dynamic Amplification of Subtropical Extreme Precipitation in a Warming Climate

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Projected precipitation changes in a warming climate vary considerably, spatially, and between intensities. The changes can be greater or less than the ∼7% K−1 Clausius‐Clapeyron (CC) prediction, owing to dynamic effects.

Isolation, Insularity and Resilience: A Review of the Geophysical, Socioeconomic, and Environmental Vulnerabilities of Gran Canaria and Lesvos Islands for Policy Interventions to Global Change

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 34, Issue 6, Page 8018-8057, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The dynamic nature of small islands being geographically isolated and their perceived connectedness with global networks complicates research attempts to draw general conclusions on whether insularity leads to marginalization or strengthens their resilience for sustainable development.

Modeling the Redistribution of Dust Across the Martian Surface for Mars Years 24 to 36

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Global Dust Events (GDEs) transport huge amounts of dust across the Martian atmosphere. GDEs occur only every few Mars Years (MYs), but the reasons behind this inter‐annual variability remain poorly understood. The question whether surface dust exhaustion and subsequent replenishment explain this variability remains open.

Mesoscale Modeling of Titan’s Shangri‐La Region: The Impact of Surface Properties on Winds

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The knowledge of Titan’s near‐surface atmosphere is sparse. The Huygens descent probe measured winds, and the multiple dune field observations and possible dust storms suggest active near‐surface dynamics. The Dragonfly rotorcraft lander will fly close to the surface in the Shangri‐La region, near the Huygens landing site, where complex dune ...
