Managing hedgerows for biodiversity: Disentangling the effects of trimming, structure and connectivity on the use of linear features by bats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 12, Page 3300-3313, December 2025.
Our findings underscore the value of extensive hedgerow management in promoting on‐farm bat activity and support the integration of simple hedgerow quality assessment protocols into agri‐environment schemes. Consistent with previous research, we confirm the importance of tall, tree‐filled hedgerows and emphasise the need to preserve mature trees.

Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) relating to an analysis of the health risks associated with exposure to caterpillars with stinging hairs and the development of management recommendations

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Several species of Lepidoptera with caterpillars bearing urticating hairs are increasing their range in metropolitan France from year to year, such as the pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa Denis et Schiffermüller 1775) whose presence was historically limited to the south of France, and which is gradually being observed in the north ...

Organic farming and semi‐natural habitats for multifunctional agriculture: A case study in hedgerow landscapes of Brittany

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 1, Page 53-63, January 2025.
Our study suggests that field‐scale organic farming is necessary to promote biodiversity conservation and associated ecological functioning in crop fields, whereas landscape‐scale preservation of semi‐natural habitats alone is likely insufficient. Preservation of hedgerows in the landscape brings additional ecological and socio‐economic benefits for ...

Local extirpation of woody species in Colophospermum mopane woodland under chronic utilisation by elephants

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, September 2024.
Abstract The hypothesis that certain woody species may be prone to local extirpation under chronic elephant utilisation was examined for Colophospermum mopane open woodland, for an area within the foraging range of elephants from permanent water. Elephant density increased from nearly absent in the 1970s to >3 elephants km−2, with 0.62 adult bulls km−2,

Haies et boisements pare-congères : de la théorie à la pratique

open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires, 2010
Le transport de neige par le vent est responsable de formation de congères sur les voies de communication. Ce problème est tout particulièrement sensible dans le Massif Central où même de faibles chutes de neige reprises sur de vastes étendues conduisent

Techniques and endocrine‐reproductive outcomes of ovarian transposition prior to pelvic radiotherapy in both gynecologic and non‐gynecologic cancers: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 165, Issue 3, Page 948-958, June 2024.
Abstract Background Premature ovarian failure may be a consequence of radiotherapy administered for the treatment of various female oncologic diseases. Before radiotherapy, fertility may be preserved through ovarian transposition (OT), which consists of moving the ovaries away from the radiation field.

Les paysages bocagers et le ruissellement appréhendés par la modélisation multi-agents

open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires, 2019
Les transferts hydro-sédimentaires issus des processus de ruissellement érosif des sols agricoles génèrent de multiples aléas au sein des hydrosystèmes (érosion des sols, pollution de l'eau, inondations aux exutoires, etc.).

Investigation of the relationship between atopic dermatitis of dogs and intestinal epithelial damage

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 3, May 2024.
Using selected gut‐related biomarkers, this study investigated whether there is an association between canine atopic dermatitis and intestinal damage. Increased intestinal biomarkers in dogs with atopic dermatitis may indicate the presence of intestinal damage.

Local and regional‐scale effects of hedgerows on grassland‐ and forest‐associated bird populations within agroecosystems

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 34, Issue 3, April 2024.
Abstract Linear woody features (LWFs), like hedgerows along field edges, provide wildlife habitat and support biodiversity in agroecosystems. Assessments of LWFs usually focus on community‐level indices, such as species richness. However, effective conservation actions need to balance the contrasting habitat preferences of different wildlife species ...

Crop phenology reshapes the food‐safety landscape for roe deer in an agroecosystem

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 564-574, March 2024.
Our work highlights the importance of behavioural plasticity and habitat complementation in the persistence of this synanthropic species in agroecosystems. This behavioural adjustment may buffer the consequences of the reduction in natural habitats that accompanies intensification of agricultural production and has implications for understanding how ...
