SRM-Hair: Single Image Head Mesh Reconstruction via 3D Morphable Hair [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
3D Morphable Models (3DMMs) have played a pivotal role as a fundamental representation or initialization for 3D avatar animation and reconstruction. However, extending 3DMMs to hair remains challenging due to the difficulty of enforcing vertex-level consistent semantic meaning across hair shapes.

An ex vivo comparative study of the tensile strengthening efficacy of protein-derived actives on heavily bleached hair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The damaging effects of oxidative bleaching are most evident in hair which has been lightened from dark shades to platinum blonde. Whilst conventional conditioning agents effectively manage cuticular damage, the reversal of cortical weakening of hair ...

Scalable Manufacturing of Radiation‐Tolerant Potentiometric Electrodes: A Systematic Transition from Laboratory to Semiautomated Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laboratory protocols for producing thin‐film pH electrodes for sterilized single‐use technologies have been successfully developed into a semiautomated workflow, with higher throughput and precision of membrane thickness. Accuracies are within 0.05 pH units versus ground truth, and uncertainty analysis reveals the largest sources of error to be derived

Shape‐Reconfigurable Crack‐Based Strain Sensor with Ultrahigh and Tunable Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A highly sensitive crack‐based sensor with tunable strain detection capabilities is demonstrated through controlled nanocrack formation in a line‐patterned shape memory polymer substrate. The sensor design integrates thermoplastic polyurethane and poly(lactic acid), enabling thermo‐responsive reconfiguration of crack geometry.

Hair Segmentation on Time-of-Flight RGBD Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Robust segmentation of hair from portrait images remains challenging: hair does not conform to a uniform shape, style or even color; dark hair in particular lacks features. We present a novel computational imaging solution that tackles the problem from both input and processing fronts. We explore using Time-of-Flight (ToF) RGBD sensors on recent mobile
