Disentangling Factors of Variation by Mixing Them

open access: yes, 2018
We propose an approach to learn image representations that consist of disentangled factors of variation without exploiting any manual labeling or data domain knowledge.

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.

Investigating the Relationship Between Androgenetic Alopecia and Hair Shape, Color, and Thickness: A Case‐Control Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports
Background and Aims Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. The aim of this case‐control study was to investigate the role of phenotype (hair shape, thickness, and color) and demographic characteristics ...

Coat Color of Korean Brindle Cattle and Melanocortin 1 Receptor (MC1R) mRNA: Variation of 3'-Untranslated Region and Expression

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2014
The objective of this study was to determine the breed differences in the 3'-untranslated region (UTR) of MC1R mRNA, which may be used to distinguish Korean brindle cattle (Chikso) from other breeds. We investigated the relationship between the variation

BACH, a Bayesian Optimization Protocol for Accurate Coarse‐Grained Parameterization of Organic Liquids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a fully automated Bayesian optimization (BO) protocol for the parameterization of nonbonded interactions in coarse‐grain CG force fields (BACH). Using experimental thermophysical data, we apply the protocol to a broad range of liquids, spanning linear, branched, and unsaturated hydrocarbons, esters, triglycerides, and water.

The relation between natural and sexual selection – study case on the phenotypic characteristics that influence mate choice in a North-West Romanian human population

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babeș-Bolyai. Biologia, 2019
The force of sexual selection acts upon the mating process of all beings, this great force is influenced by different factors as phenotypic characteristics.

Establishing a Model Precursor System: Over a Decade of Research on Carbon Dots from the Citric Acid‐Urea System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The citric acid/urea (CA‐Urea) precursor system offers a versatile, scalable route to carbon dots with tunable luminescence and multifunctionality. Mechanistic insights into precursor chemistry and reaction parameters have enabled doping, surface modification, and hybridization strategies, yielding CDs for luminescent devices, sensing, catalysis ...

Hair Color and Hearing Loss: A Survey in a Group of Military Men [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2011
Introduction: It has been shown that low levels of pigmentation increase susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss in humans. For this reason, white populations develop more pronounced noise- induced hearing loss in comparison to black populations ...

Where Most Frameworks Degrade: Flexible Bimetallic Phosphonate Crystals as pH‐Universal Supercapacitor Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plastically flexible single crystals of the bimetallic phosphonate framework [Cu(2,2′‐bpy)VO(O3PC6H5)2] combine mechanical adaptability with robust pseudocapacitive charge storage. The material delivers about 140 Fg−1 at pH 4 and pH 10 and remains stable across pH 2‐12, enabling energy storage under comparatively mild electrolyte conditions.
