Hair-follicle nevus

The American Journal of Dermatopathology, 1984
A case of a 5-year-old child with a rare nevus of a hair follicle is reported. Histologically it was characterized by many hair follicles within the dermis at the same level of maturation. This nevus must be differentiated from other hamartomas of hair follicles and from Becker's nevus.

Hair Follicle Regeneration by Transplantation of a Bioengineered Hair Follicle Germ

2016
Hair follicle morphogenesis is first induced by epithelial-mesenchymal interactions in the developing embryo. In the hair follicle, various stem-cell populations are maintained in specialized niches to promote repetitive hair follicle-morphogenesis, which is observed in the variable lower region of the hair follicle as a postnatal hair cycle.

WHOLE HAIR FOLLICLE CULTURE

Dermatologic Clinics, 1996
In this article the authors have reviewed the historical background behind the organ culture of whole hair follicles. The methods developed by the authors and others for the isolation and whole organ maintenance of hair follicles from both human and other species are described.

Estrogens and the hair follicle

JDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, 2004
SummaryWhile it is undisputed that estrogens (17β‐estradiol, E2) are mainly involved in skin physiology and operate as potent hair growth modulators, our knowledge about the estrogen target cells in skin and exact signaling pathways is still very limited.

The secret life of the hair follicle

Trends in Genetics, 1992
The mammalian hair follicle is a treasure waiting to be discovered by more molecular geneticists. How can a tiny cluster of apparently uniform epithelial cells, adjacent to a tiny cluster of uniform mesenchymal cells, give rise to five or six concentric cylinders, each of which is composed of cells of a distinctive type that synthesize their own ...

Upending the hair follicle

Nature Genetics, 2006
A new study profiles microRNA (miRNA) expression in mouse epidermis and hair follicles and examines the requirement for these miRNAs during normal embryonic development. In the absence of Dicer-dependent miRNA production, hair follicles evaginate rather than invaginate, revealing an unexpected role for miRNAs in regulating hair follicle morphogenesis.

The Environment of the Hair Follicles [PDF]

open access: possible, 1981
The perifollicular environment can be divided into two parts: (a) connective tissue components and (b) the blood vessels and nerve endings.

The hair follicle group in mice

The Anatomical Record, 1966
AbstractInitiation and development of the follicle population in mice were examined during embryonic and early postnatal life. The shape of the curve relating follicle density with age suggests that follicle intiation begins in the 14‐day‐old embryo and continues until about two days after birth.

Embryology of the Hair Follicle

1990
The initial appearance and development of the hair follicle is strictly linked to the morphogenesis of the skin in the embryo. The skin is an organ composed of the epidermis and dermis. The origin of the two components is different: the epidermis derives from the ectodermal sheet, while the dermis derives from the mesodermal one.

Histochemistry of the human hair follicle

1997
Immunohistochemistry of the human hair follicle is of increasing interest in hair research. The data on antigen distribution in the different epithelial and mesenchymal structures of this unique skin appendage are superfluous now. In the present chapter, I will concentrate on selected aspects related to hair follicle differentiation, epithelial ...
