Encoding Magnetic Anisotropies in Digital Light Processing 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid magnetic device—combining a coaxial coil within a nested Halbach array—is presented, integrated into a DLP 3D printer to enable spatially resolved magnetic field control. This system enables complex, multimodal responses by programming liquid crystal elastomer resins for magnetic and thermal actuation, and by inducing electrically conductive ...

Analysis of Electromagnetic Characteristics of a Novel Toroidal Acceleration Linear Motor

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2022
A high thrust density linear motor, which adopts a novel toroidal structure, applying to load acceleration in confined space is proposed. The basic structure of the toroidal acceleration permanent magnet synchronous linear motor (TA-PMLSM) is depicted ...

An adjustable focusing system for a 2 MeV H- ion beam line based on permanent magnet quadrupoles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A compact adjustable focusing system for a 2 MeV H- RFQ Linac is designed, constructed and tested based on four permanent magnet quadrupoles (PMQ). A PMQ model is realised using finite element simulations, providing an integrated field gradient of 2.35 T

MagPiezo: A Magnetogenetic Platform for Remote Activation of Endogenous Piezo1 Channels in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.

Halbach arrays at the nanoscale from chiral spin textures

open access: yes, 2017
Mallinson's idea that some spin textures in planar magnetic structures could produce an enhancement of the magnetic flux on one side of the plane at the expense of the other gave rise to permanent magnet configurations known as Halbach magnet arrays ...

Ultracold neutron depolarization in magnetic bottles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We analyze the depolarization of ultracold neutrons confined in a magnetic field configuration similar to those used in existing or proposed magneto-gravitational storage experiments aiming at a precise measurement of the neutron lifetime.

Porous Hybrid Soft Actuators From Liquid Crystal Networks and Lyotropic Chromonic Liquid Crystal Templated Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The graphic illustrates the design of a hybrid bilayer composed of a liquid crystal hydrogel (LCH) and a liquid crystal network (LCN). The figure highlights the magnetic alignment of the chromonic hydrogel and the thermal‐responsive actuation of the LCN along with the LCH when both layers are aligned or misaligned, enabling programmable, light‐driven ...

Design of a Magnetic Field Mapping Rover System for a Neutron Lifetime Experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The beta decay lifetime of the free neutron is an important input to the Standard Model of particle physics, but values measured using different methods have exhibited substantial disagreement.
