A study on the mean free path and half value layer at various alloys for different photon energies

open access: yesJournal of X-Ray Science and Technology, 2011
The mean free path (mfp) and half value layer (x(1/2)) values of binary and ternary alloys consist of 3d transition metals have been have been calculated at photon energies 22.1, 25.0, 59.5 and 88.0 keV.

Mailed thermoluminescent dosimeter determination of entrance skin exposure and half-value layer in mammography [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Roentgenology, 1978
A method of providing in vivo measurement of entrance skin exposure for mammography using mailed thermoluminescent dosimeters has been developed. The dosimeters are calibrated to 137Cs (662 keV), and a correction is applied to account for energy response.

Understanding radiation shielding performance through a comparative study of half value layer in novel and preexisting silicate glasses

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
This study focuses on evaluating the PbO-SiO2-B2O3-Na2O glasses' radiation shielding ability against various previously tested materials to gain an in-depth understanding of the glass system's attenuation capabilities.

Investigation of gamma radiation shielding features for modified structural materials for nuclear energy and nuclear medicine [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Technology and Radiation Protection, 2023
In this paper, shielding characteristics of three concrete samples with different B4C,Fe3O4,and BaSO4 contents were examined by determining their theoretical and experimental mass attenuation coefficients at photon energies of 15 MeV.

Validation of a Proposed Equation for Determining the Half-Thickness Value of Gamma and X-Ray Radiation

open access: yesSüleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi Fen Dergisi, 2023
Half-value layer (HVL) is energy dependent on the photon, much as the attenuation coefficient. Increasing the penetrating energy of a photon stream causes an increase in a substance's HVL.

Lead-borate glass system doped with Sm3+ ions for the X-ray shielding applications

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2022
The impact of varying Sm2O3 content on radiation shielding properties of 15PbF2: (65-x) B2O3: 20K2O:xSm2O3 (where 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.5 mol %) glass samples, was investigated by studying their physical, radio-luminescence and X-ray-shielding characteristics.

Radiation shielding properties of weathered soils: Influence of the chemical composition and granulometric fractions

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2022
Soils are porous materials with high shielding capability to attenuate gamma and X-rays. The disposal of radionuclides throughout the soil profile can expose the living organisms to ionizing radiation.
