Morbidity of Free-ranging White-tailed Sea Eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) in Germany
Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery, 2007Between September 1998 and December 2006, 87 injured or sick free-ranging white-tailed sea eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) from Germany were admitted to the Small Animal Clinic, Free University of Berlin. Most birds were adults (43%) followed by nestlings/fledglings (26%), immature birds (18%), and juveniles (13%).

White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is the largest bird of pray in Europe and Croatia. His habitat is in the middle and eastern Croatia where wetlands and forests are present. Because of reduction of habitat and feeding area population is in danger. In “Sunjsko polje”as landscape of importance, 6 pairs of white-tailed eagle are nesting.

The White-tailed Sea-eagle is distributed from northwest Europe and Scandinavia to the east and in central Europe along the Danube river basin. The Danube basin birds are considered to form a separate sub-population with resident adults and vagrant immatures. The estimated Croatian population is 135-155 pairs and considered Vulnerable nationally.

[Trematodes parasitizing the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla L.)].
Wiadomosci parazytologiczne, 1994Five white-tailed eagles were dissected--3 from the Czech Republic and 2 from Poland. 4 specimens were infected with trematodes only: Strigea falconis, Neodiplostomum (Conodiplostomum) perlatum, and Paracoenogonimus ovatus. S. falconis was found for the first time in an eagle from the Czech Republic, whereas N. (C.) perlatum and P. ovatus were detected
