Structural studies of halogenated diphenyl ethers from a marine sponge

Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1981
The structures of two halogenated diphenyl ethers from a marine sponge have been assigned from spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic evidence. The two compounds have been identified as 3,5-dibromo-4-chloro-2-(2,4-dibromophenoxy)phenol (1) and 3,5-dibromo-2-(2,4-dibromophenoxy)phenol (2).

Interferences in the analysis of mixed halogenated dibenzofurans with diphenyl ethers

Chemosphere, 1997
Abstract The conversion of diphenyl ether with CuCl 2 x2H 2 O and CuBr 2 at 280°C in a nitrogen flow results in poly-halogenated diphenyl ethers. In addition the chlorinated compounds, bromination stages 1 to 5 are obtained at chlorination levels 0 to 7 for monobromo-, 0 to 6 for dibromo-, 0 to 3 for tribromo-, and 0 to 2 for tetrabromodiphenyl ...

1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy and conformational properties of 18 halogenated diphenyl ethers

Chemosphere, 1994
Abstract 18 Polyhalogenated diphenyl ethers (DEs) were synthesized and their 1H and 13C NMR spectra measured and analyzed. As far as we know, most NMR data are reported for the first time. The assignments of the 1H and 13C NMR spectra of one congener were ascertained by 2-D 13C-1H COSY measurements.

Induced Production of Halogenated Diphenyl Ethers from the Marine‐Derived Fungus Penicillium chrysogenum

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2010
AbstractManipulation of the fermentation of the marine‐derived fungus Penicillium chrysogenum by addition of CaBr2 resulted in induced production of bromodiphenyl ether analogs. Two new free‐radical‐scavenging polybrominated diphenyl ethers, 1 and 2, and three known diphenyl ethers, 3,3′‐dihydroxy‐5,5′‐dimethyldiphenyl ether (3), and an inseparable ...

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, toxaphenes, and other halogenated organic pollutants in great blue heron eggs

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 2009
Abstract The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) has been used as a bioindicator of the state of the St. Lawrence River (Québec, Canada) since 1996. At 5-year intervals, selected breeding colonies along the River and its estuary are visited to estimate reproductive success and determine levels of contamination.

Synthesis of halogenated diphenyl ethers and dibenzofurans - A discussion of specific isomers available

Chemosphere, 1981
Abstract Synthetic routes for the preparation of halogenated diphenyl ethers and dibenzofurans are reviewed, and isomers reported in the literature are listed. In addition, the routes preferred for the synthesis of specific chlorinated isomers - especially from the point of view of an unambiguous structural assignment - are discussed in detail.
