Silver nanoparticle toxicity effect on the seagrass Halophila stipulacea

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2020
Information on silver nanoparticle (AgNP) phytotoxicity on seagrasses is provided for the first time. Toxic effects of environmentally relevant AgNP concentrations on Halophila stipulacea were assessed to identify sensitive biomarkers, to determine threshold effect concentrations and to evaluate potential risks.

The Importance of Genomics for Deciphering the Invasion Success of the Seagrass Halophila stipulacea in the Changing Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesDiversity, 2020
The Mediterranean Sea is subject to pressures from biological invasion due to coastal anthropic activities and global warming, which potentially modify its biogeography. The Red Sea tropical seagrass Halophila stipulacea entered the Eastern Mediterranean

Drivers of the Low Metabolic Rates of Seagrass Meadows in the Red Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
Tropical seagrass meadows are highly productive ecosystems that thrive in oligotrophic environments. The Red Sea is characterized by strong N–S latitudinal nutrient and temperature gradients, which constrain pelagic productivity.

Predicted warming intensifies the negative effects of nutrient increase on tropical seagrass: A physiological and fatty acid approach

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2022
The Gulf of Aqaba (GoA; northern Red Sea) supports extensive seagrass meadows, dominated by the small tropical seagrass species, Halophila stipulacea.

The capabilities of Sentinel-MSI (2A/2B) and Landsat-OLI (8/9) in seagrass and algae species differentiation using spectral reflectance [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science, 2022
This paper assesses the reflectance difference values between the respective spectral bands in the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) of Sentinel 2A/2B Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) and Landsat 8/9 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensors for seagrass ...

Distribution of the seagrass Halophila stipulacea: A big jump to the northwestern Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesAquatic Botany, 2022
Abstract The Red Sea and Indian Ocean seagrass Halophila stipulacea entered the Mediterranean in the late 19th century via the Suez Canal. Here, we report on the discovery of a population of H. stipulacea covering 16.5 ha off the harbour of Cannes, French Riviera, France.

Warming enhances carbon dioxide and methane fluxes from Red Sea seagrass (Halophila stipulacea) sediments [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2020
Seagrass meadows are autotrophic ecosystems acting as carbon sinks, but they have also been shown to be sources of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4).

Occurrence of the alien seagrass Halophila stipulacea in Martinique (French West Indies) [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Biodiversity Records, 2013
The occurrence of the tropical seagrass Halophila stipulacea (Hydrocharitaceae) is recorded for the first time on the Caribbean coast of Martinique (French West Indies, Caribbean Sea). Specimens were observed, since a large survey in 2006, on sandy substrates between 3 m and 32 m depths in this area.

eDNA Reveals the Associated Metazoan Diversity of Mediterranean Seagrass Sediments

open access: yesDiversity, 2022
Anthropogenic impacts on marine ecosystems have led to a decline of biodiversity across the oceans, threatening invaluable ecosystem services on which we depend. Ecological temporal data to track changes in diversity are relatively rare, and the few long-

Checklist of seaweeds and seagrasses of Egypt (Mediterranean Sea): A review

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Aquatic Research, 2018
This work provides the first revised and updated checklist of the seaweeds and seagrasses of the Egyptian Mediterranean coast, based on literature records. 187 seaweed species are recorded, including 107 red, 45 green and 35 brown algae.
