I N 1904 Albrecht' described instances of biliarv harnartomas . He defined "hamartoma" as "tumor-like malformations in which occur only abnormal mixing of the normal components of the organ . The abnormality may take the form of change in quantity, arrangement, or degree of differentiation, or may comprise all three.

AbstractA rare case of neuromuscular hamartoma, a benign tumor composed of well‐differentiated skeletal muscle and nerve fibers, is described and compared with four previously reported cases. The tumor arose in the major peripheral nerves. Three of the five tumors were congenital tumors. A biopsy is essential in establishing the diagnosis. However, the

In 1904, Albrecht (1) proposed the term hamartoma for a benign mixed tumor occurring in various organs including the lung. According to him, hamartomata are not true tumors but rather tumor-like malformations due to abnormal mixing or development of the normal tissue components of the organ.

Hamartomas of the hypopharynx are rare. Detailed microscopic study is necessary to differentiate these tumors from the adult-type rhabdomyoma, pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, and granular cell tumor. To our knowledge, our case of a hypopharyngeal rhabdomyomatous hamartoma removed by a lateral pharyngotomy is the only verified hypopharyngeal case in the ...

We have reported a case of endobronchial hamartoma in a mainstem bronchus. Diagnosis of these rare lesions may be difficult when chronic pulmonary destruction has occurred; biopsy of the tumor may show cellular atypia due to inflammation. Although bronchoscopic removal or removal by bronchotomy or sleeve resection with preservation of the lung may be ...

A study of 12 cases of splenic hamartomas, rare benign lesions of the spleen, included one case of spontaneous rupture of a hamartoma that required emergency operation and two cases of hamartomatosis with splenomegaly. An increased incidence of accessory spleens was also noted.

Pancreatic hamartoma is a rare benign lesion and may be mistaken for a malignancy, as demonstrated by two cases. The first case was a 29-year-old man who presented with a 7-month history of intermittent upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and a 15-kg weight loss. CT and MRI revealed a mass in the head of the pancreas.
