Separating Agent-Functioning and Inter-Agent Coordination by Activated Modules: The DECOMAS Architecture

open access: yes, 2010
The embedding of self-organizing inter-agent processes in distributed software applications enables the decentralized coordination system elements, solely based on concerted, localized interactions. The separation and encapsulation of the activities that

Osteohistology of two phorusrhacids reveals uninterrupted growth strategy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Phorusrhacidae were apex predators that primarily dominated South America ecosystems for at least 40 million years with their imposing size and predatory lifestyle—yet some aspects of their biology remain poorly understood. Osteohistology is a tool for understanding growth dynamics and biomechanical adaptations.

Effect of Cyclic Heat Exposure on the Growth Performance and Metabolism of Broilers Fed Palm Kernel Meal

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the interaction between HS and the incorporation of PKM in broiler chicken diets, as well as its effect on growth performance and metabolism. Based on the results obtained, PKM supplementation failed to mitigate the adverse effects of heat stress in broiler chickens. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the

Clock genes regulate Ca2+ signaling and mitochondrial bioenergetics to inhibit Sjogren's disease

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective Although Ca2+ signaling and metabolism have been identified as key determinants for the development of Sjogren's disease (SjD), the intricate connection between them and salivary gland physiology remains poorly understood. Methods Fluorescence‐based Ca2+ imaging, RNA seq, and mitochondrial activity were used to investigate the effects of ...

No judge, no job!: Judicial discretion and incomplete labor contracts [PDF]

open access: yes
The decision making of judges is prone to error and misapprehension. Consequently, the prevailing literature ties the economic function of courts to dispute resolution and minimization of rule making costs. In contrast to previous research, this analysis

Taming Data Explosion in Probabilistic Information Integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Data integration has been a challenging problem for decades. In an ambient environment, where many autonomous devices have their own information sources and network connectivity is ad hoc and peer-to-peer, it even becomes a serious bottleneck.

Pharmacogenetic CYP2B6 variants affect steroid hormone metabolism in human breast cancer cells

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Common genetic CYP2B6 variants correlate with adverse breast cancer outcome. The oestrogen metabolites estriol and 16‐epiestriol, which are formed downstream of CYP2B6‐catalysed 16α/β‐hydroxytestosterone, may be linked to elevated breast cancer risk and might increase due to the demonstrated CYP2B6 variants‐related metabolic shifts.

Active laser frequency stabilization using neutral praseodymium (Pr)

open access: yes, 2009
We present a new possibility for the active frequency stabilization of a laser using transitions in neutral praseodymium. Because of its five outer electrons, this element shows a high density of energy levels leading to an extremely line-rich excitation
