Applicability of Hammett Equation in the Iodination of Acetophenones

open access: yes, 1970
The rate constants for the iodination of acetophenones have been measured colorimetrically in 1·388(M) aqueous perchloric acid. The value of p, the reaction constant and the resonaρnce interaction energy for the para substituents have also been calculated.

Electronic Contributions to the σp Parameter of the Hammett Equation

open access: yesThe Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2003
A statistical procedure to obtain the intrinsic electronic contributions to the Hammett substituent constant sigma(p) is reported. The method is based on the comparison between the experimental sigma(p) values and the electronic electrophilicity index omega evaluated for a series of 42 functional groups commonly present in organic compounds.

Landau Damping in a Turbulent Setting

open access: yes, 2012
To address the problem of Landau damping in kinetic turbulence, the forcing of the linearized Vlasov equation by a stationary random source is considered.

Understanding nonlinear saturation in zonal-flow-dominated ion temperature gradient turbulence

open access: yes, 2015
We propose a quantitative model of ion temperature gradient driven turbulence in toroidal magnetized plasmas. In this model, the turbulence is regulated by zonal flows, i.e. mode saturation occurs by a zonal-flow-mediated energy cascade ("shearing"), and

A New Numerical Scheme for Cosmic Ray Transport

open access: yes, 2017
Numerical solutions of the cosmic-ray (CR) magneto-hydrodynamic equations are dogged by a powerful numerical instability, which arises from the constraint that CRs can only stream down their gradient.
