Detecting Hands in Egocentric Videos: Towards Action Recognition
Recently, there has been a growing interest in analyzing human daily activities from data collected by wearable cameras. Since the hands are involved in a vast set of daily tasks, detecting hands in egocentric images is an important step towards the ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Natural-pose hand detection in low-resolution images [PDF]
Robust real-time hand detection and tracking in video sequences would enable many applications in areas as diverse ashuman-computer interaction, robotics, security and surveillance, and sign language-based systems.

Efficient Evaluation of the Number of False Alarm Criterion
This paper proposes a method for computing efficiently the significance of a parametric pattern inside a binary image. On the one hand, a-contrario strategies avoid the user involvement for tuning detection thresholds, and allow one to account fairly for

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Accelerometer telemetry system [PDF]
An accelerometer telemetry system incorporated in a finger ring is used for monitoring the motor responses of a subject. The system includes an accelerometer, battery, and transmitter and provides information to a remote receiver regarding hand movements

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Deep Learning-Based Standard Sign Language Discrimination
General sign language recognition models are only designed for recognizing categories, i.e., such models do not discriminate standard and nonstandard sign language actions made by learners.

Hand Motion Detection in fNIRS Neuroimaging Data [PDF]
As the number of people diagnosed with movement disorders is increasing, it becomes vital to design techniques that allow the better understanding of human brain in naturalistic settings. There are many brain imaging methods such as fMRI, SPECT, and MEG that provide the functional information of the brain.
