ARTERIAL DOMINANCE IN THE HAND

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 1978
Arterial pressure was measured simultaneously in the thumb and in the contralateral arm using strain-gauge plethysmography in 100 healthy persons aged 13--43 yr, before and after compression of the radial or the ulnar artery. The radial and ulnar pulses were palpable in all instances.

Sticking choices in timpani sight-reading performance

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2023
When sight-reading a score, a timpanist needs to decide in real-time which stick to use to play a specific note while interpreting the musical material. Our main point of inquiry seeks to understand which sticking patterns performers employ and how they ...

Some Insights into the Method of Center Projection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present several new results which pertain to the successes of center projection in maximal center gauge (MCG). In particular, we show why any center vortex, inserted "by hand" into a thermalized lattice configuration, will be among the set of vortices

Transverse fingernail curvature in adults: a quantitative evaluation and the influence of gender, age, and hand size and dominance. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The nail plate's convex shape in both the longitudinal and transverse directions is thought to contribute to its mechanical rigidity, and overcurvature can be a symptom of local and/or systemic disorders.

Analysis of Visuo Motor Control between Dominant Hand and Non-Dominant Hand for Effective Human-Robot Collaboration

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The human-in-the-loop technology requires studies on sensory-motor characteristics of each hand for an effective human–robot collaboration. This study aims to investigate the differences in visuomotor control between the dominant (DH) and non-dominant ...

Laterality in living beings, hand dominance, and cerebral lateralization [PDF]

open access: yesSrpski Arhiv za Celokupno Lekarstvo, 2016
To date, lateralization in living beings is a phenomenon almost mythologically unexplored. Scientists have proved that lateralization is not exclusively a human feature.

An Investigation of Bilateral Symmetry during Manual Wheelchair Propulsion

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2015
Studies of manual wheelchair propulsion often assume bilateral symmetry to simplify data collection, processing and analysis. However, the validity of this assumption is unclear.

Spatial Alignment and Response Hand in Geometric and Motion Illusions

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2017
Perception of visual illusions is susceptible to manipulation of their spatial properties. Further, illusions can sometimes affect visually guided actions, especially the movement planning phase.

Laterality and technical-tactical shot indicators in elite Water Polo

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Human Movement
The aims of this study were to compare the effectiveness of left-handed vs. right-handed players in goal-related actions and positive technical-tactical outcomes during play and evaluate shot efficacy across field positions in elite Water Polo.

The precision of experienced action video-game players: Line bisection reveals reduced leftward response bias [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Twenty-two experienced action video-game players (AVGPs) and 18 non-VGPs were tested on a pen-and-paper line bisection task that was untimed. Typically, right-handers bisect lines 2 % to the left of true centre, a bias thought to reflect the dominance of
