Effect of Repeated Movements on Motion Perception and Motor Learning of Dominant and Non-dominant Upper Extremity of Healthy Individuals

open access: yesBezmiâlem Science, 2021
Objective:Hand dominancy can be observed as right, left, or the usage of bilateral hands. Majority of the Turkish population are right-hand dominant. This study aimed to examine and interpret the motion perception and motor learning of the dominant and ...

TEST: A Tropic, Embodied, and Situated Theory of Cognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
TEST is a novel taxonomy of knowledge representations based on three distinct hierarchically organized representational features: Tropism, Embodiment, and Situatedness.

Inspiration‐induced vasoconstrictive responses in dominant versus non‐dominant hands [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Physiology and Functional Imaging, 2005
SummarySingle rapid and deep inspirations (inspiratory gasps, IG) result in arteriolar vasoconstriction with concomitant transient decreases in skin blood flow that are most prominent in fingers and toes. Vascular responses (inspiratory gasp responses, IGR) are determined as the maximum percentage reduction in blood flow and have been used to assess ...

Sensorimotor faculties bias choice behavior

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
Decision-making is a deliberate process that seemingly evolves under our own volition. Yet, research on embodied cognition has demonstrated that higher-order cognitive processes may be influenced, in unexpected ways, by properties of motor and sensory ...

Inter-personal motor interaction is facilitated by hand pairing

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The extent to which hand dominance may influence how each agent contributes to inter-personal coordination remains unknown. In the present study, right-handed human participants performed object balancing tasks either in dyadic conditions with each agent

Combined Foot and Eye Dominance Scale as a useful tool for the assessment of lateralization

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry, 2023
Introduction Lateralization is the functional dominance of one of the dual organs of the body: eyes, arms, legs and even ears, during their spontaneous or purposeful actions.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Comparison of four techniques on facility of two-hand Bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation: E-C, Thenar Eminence, Thenar Eminence (Dominant hand)-E-C (non-dominant hand) and Thenar Eminence (non-dominant hand) – E-C (dominant hand) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Research, 2016
Introduction: Bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation is the first and important part of the airway management. The aim of present study was to evaluate the quality of four different BVM ventilation techniques - E-C, Thenar Eminence, Thenar Eminence (Dominant hand)-E-C (Non dominant hand), and Thenar Eminence (Non dominant hand)-E-C (Dominant hand) - among ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Towards an effective field theory for vector mesons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The assumption that vector mesons dominate the interactions of hadrons with electromagnetism (vector-meson dominance - VMD) provides an important phenomenological concept.
