Co-articulation Detection in Hand Gestures

TENCON 2005 - 2005 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2005
The task of automatic gesture recognition is highly challenging due to the presence of unpredictable and ambiguous non gesture hand motions referred to as co-articulation. Due to co-articulation that occurs during transition from one gesture to the next, problem is encountered in continuous hand gesture recognition. In this paper, we have shown that co-

Fast hand detection and gesture recognition

2015 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics (ICMLC), 2015
A fast hand detection and gesture recognition method is proposed in this paper. To reduce the computation time, we employ symmetric mask-based discrete wavelet transform (SMDWT) to reduce the image resolution and then utilize the extracted characteristics to perform hand detection and gesture recognition.

Real-time detection of hand gestures

2016 21st International Conference on Methods and Models in Automation and Robotics (MMAR), 2016
This paper presents one of the approaches to the gesture recognition problem, which might be valuable in development of social robots, companions for deaf-mute people or in design of new control methods. A universal PC application for gesture recognition in image sequence acquired from a simple USB camera in real-time was made.

Hand-Raising Gesture Detection in Real Classroom

2018 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2018
This paper proposes a novel method for hand-raising detection in the real classroom environment. Different from traditional motion detection, the hand-raising detection is quite challenging in the real classroom due to complex scenarios, various gestures, and low resolutions.

Non-invasive optical detection of hand gestures

Proceedings of the 6th Augmented Human International Conference, 2015
In this paper we present a novel type of sensing technology for hand and finger gesture recognition that utilizes light in the invisible spectrum to detect changes in position and form of body tissue like tendons and muscles. The proposed system can be easily integrated with existing wearable devices.

Hand Gesture Recognition Based on Fingertip Detection

2013 Fourth Global Congress on Intelligent Systems, 2013
To improve the hand gesture recognition accuracy based on Hu moment features, a new recognition algorithm was developed based on the fingertip structure detection. Firstly, the geometric features, the areas of skin region and the image, were designed to segment the skin region from the background in space of hue, saturation and value of brightness ...

Robust Hand Gesture Detection Based on Feature Classifier

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
In this article, a novel automatic hand gesture detection approach based on the boosted classifiers is proposed, which analyze the hand gesture features. At first, hand gesture images are processed with local binary pattern (LBP) operator which has the powerful capability of texture feature description.
