Through Diamond Robust Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thin film diamond growth offers a unique opportunity for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS); the encapsulation of plasmonic nanostructures within a transparent, chemically stable, and physically robust coating. The diamond acts as both a window and protective layer, enabling illumination of the plasmonic nanostructures through the diamond ...

Temperature‐Modulated Threshold Response in a Volatile Memristor: Toward a Biomimetic Polymodal Nociceptive System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an artificial polymodal nociceptor whose firing threshold is actively modulated by temperature. A volatile TiN/TiOx/ZnO/TiOx/ITO memristor shows interfacial ion–driven resistive switching and membrane‐potential‐like dynamics, enabling temperature‐dependent nociceptive behavior.

Handgrip strength of skiers is not an ideal biomarker of a person’s fitness

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Translational Myology
Dear Editor,   We read with interest the article by Burtscher et al. on hand grip strength measured with a hand dynamometer at various locations along Tyrolean ski slopes in 757 recreational skiers compared to 1021 community residents.1 Most of the ...

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Relationships Between Anthropometric and Performance Variables in Youth: Predictors of Lower-Body Vertical Jump Peak Power [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Anthropometric and physical performance measurements are commonly used for identifying specific physical traits in youth. Laboratory-based tests (e.g., linear velocity transducers), while accurate, provide practical limitations due to high costs and ...
