Hand strength: the influence of grip span and grip type
Ergonomics, 1991The maximal force from each of the fingers II-V (FF) and the resultant force between the jaws of the tool (RF), due to contribution from all fingers, were measured using a pair of modified pairs. The RF was measured at 21 handle separations and the FF was measured at seven handle separations for each finger. A traditional grip type was compared with a '

Clinicians have increasing access to longitudinal data on hand grip strength (HGS), often measured for frailty or sarcopenia assessment, of their older clients. Evidence on the association of change in HGS with mortality is mixed. We investigated whether baseline hand grip strength (HGS) and annual change in HGS are associated with mortality among ...

Effect of Viewed Color on Hand-Grip Strength
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1998Published reports on the effects of viewed color on physical strength are compromised by failure to specify each of the three dimensions of the color stimuli used The present study investigated the relationship between color and grip strength by independently measuring the effects of the three dimensions of color.

Correlation of hand functionality and grip strengths with anthropometric measurements
Work, 2021BACKGROUND: Using objective anthropometric measurement data and anthropometric ratios, grip strength and hand functionality can be evaluated. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to obtain anthropometric measurements regarding the forearm and hand, to evaluate the hand functionality in addition to hand and finger grip strengths, and to investigate the ...

Design of Hand Grip System with Focus on Tripod Grip Strength
International Journal of Engineering Trends and Technology, 2020ripod grip strength has been used as a key indicator of the overall state of strength and it is associated with mortality and disability. There are numerous ways grip strength can be measured. The measurement of grip strength in this project is using the power grip which is enclosing fingers around an object, bringing it toward the palm of the hand ...

Grip Strength and Hand Dominance: Challenging the 10% Rule
The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 1989Abstract The purpose of this study was to test the utility of the 10% rule in hand rehabilitation. The 10% rule states that the dominant hand possesses a 10% greater grip strength than the nondominant hand. This rule has been used for many years to assist therapists in setting strength goals for patients with injured hands.

The influence of grip width on two-handed grip strengths in females
International Journal of Industrial Ergonomics, 2000Abstract Nineteen female adults were tested for maximal voluntary contraction strengths of two-handed grip in a snap-type action at 11 different grip widths, ranging from 3.8 TO 16.5 cm in increment of 1.2 cm. The results indicated that the greatest strength was achieved at the smallest grip width and the weakest at the largest width.

Grip strength measurements with the aid of dynamometers are dependent on the cooperation and motivation of the individual examined. Recognising a simulated loss of grip is a hitherto unresolved problem. With a sensor glove developed at the Berlin University of Technology, the force distribution pattern of any form of grip can be captured via ten ...

Hand Dominance and Grip Strength of Older Asian Adults
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2010Hand dominance in a group of Asian adults 60 to 89 years old was examined. Participants were independently living in the community; free of pain, injury, and disease of the upper limbs; and had no restrictions on use of upper extremities in daily activities. The grip strengths of both hands were measured with a Jamar hand dynamometer.
