Segment-Based Hand Pose Estimation
The 2nd Canadian Conference on Computer and Robot Vision (CRV'05), 2005The work presented here solves two major problems of hand pose recognition: (A) determining what pose is shown in a given, input picture and (B) detecting the presence of a known input pose in a given input video. It builds on the earlier work of Athitsos and Sclaroff (2003) toward solving problem A.

Static hand poses for gestural interaction
Proceedings of the 2014 International Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces, 2014Gestural interaction leveraging the expressiveness of the human hand, either in touch or in air gestures has been a subject of much research. In this work, a user study focusing mainly on static hand poses has been conducted on a heterogeneous group of participants covering different aspects of this interaction method: role of the participants in the ...

3D Hand Pose Reconstruction with ISOSOM
2005We present an appearance-based 3D hand posture estimation method that determines a ranked set of possible hand posture candidates from an unmarked hand image, based on an analysis by synthesis method and an image retrieval algorithm. We formulate the posture estimation problem as a nonlinear, many-to-many mapping problem in a high dimension space.

Proactive Sensing for Improving Hand Pose Estimation
Proceedings of the 2016 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2016We propose a novel sensing technique called proactive sensing. Proactive sensing continually repositions a camera-based sensor as a way to improve hand pose estimation. Our core contribution is a scheme that effectively learns how to move the sensor to improve pose estimation confidence while requiring no ground truth hand poses.

Hand pose estimation with multi-scale network
Applied Intelligence, 2017Hand pose estimation plays an important role in human-computer interaction. Because it is a problem of high-dimensional nonlinear regression, the accuracy achieved by the existing methods of hand pose estimation are still unsatisfactory. With the development of deep neural networks, more and more people have begun to adopt the method involving deep ...

Hand Pose Estimation with Attention-and-Sequence Network
2018Hand pose estimation from depth images is an essential topic in computer vision. Despite the recent advancements in this area promoted by Convolutional Neural Network, accurate hand pose estimation is still a challenging problem. In this paper, we analyse the spatial relationship among hand joints, and discover that: (1) there exists independence of ...
