Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Differences in the Outcomes of Early Active Mobilization Following Flexor Tendon Repair Between Zone 1 and Distal Zone 2 Injuries

open access: yesJournal of Hand Surgery Global Online
Purpose: Complete release of the A4 pulley is recommended for flexor tendon repair to allow smooth tendon excursion, provided the proximal sheath is mostly intact.

Single incision thenar muscle reconstruction using the free functional pronator quadratus flap

open access: yesBMC Surgery, 2021
Background Injuries to the thenar muscle mass or the thenar branch of the median nerve and resulting loss of thumb opposition lead to a massive impairment of hand function. For decades, reconstructive approaches were based on tendon transfers. To broaden

RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY OF THE HAND [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1919
One of the most perplexing problems that were presented to the orthopedic surgeon during the war was the restoration of function in injuries of the hand. Each case presented many difficulties rather than a single problem. Complete restoration of function, or as nearly complete restoration as possible, is essential before the full duty of the surgeon to

Outcome of a Hand Orthosis and Hand Therapy for Carpometacarpal Osteoarthritis in Daily Practice: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yes, 2018
PURPOSE: Initial treatment for symptomatic carpometacarpal (CMC) osteoarthritis (OA) of the thumb is usually nonsurgical. However, evidence on the effect of a hand orthosis and hand therapy for mid- and long-term results is limited, and it is unknown how

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Vestibular Patient Journey: Insights From Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA) Registry

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Vestibular symptoms impose a high burden of disability. Understanding real‐world diagnostic and treatment pathways can identify care gaps and guide interventions. We aimed to characterize symptom profiles, diagnostic trends, provider involvement, and treatment patterns in vestibular disorders.

Biomechanical Analysis of a New Eight-Strand Suture for Flexor Tendon Repair

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2022
Background The placement of multistrand sutures during flexor tendon repair requires complicated surgical skills; such suturing is difficult. We developed a new, simpler eight-strand suture, which we term the Yoshizu cross-lock.
