Model-Agnostic Approaches To Handling Noisy Labels When Training Sound Event Classifiers [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics (WASPAA), 2019
Label noise is emerging as a pressing issue in sound event classification. This arises as we move towards larger datasets that are difficult to annotate manually, but it is even more severe if datasets are collected automatically from online repositories, where labels are inferred through automated heuristics applied to the audio content or metadata ...

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Online multiple people tracking-by-detection in crowded scenes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Computer Engineering and Technology, 2015
Multiple people detection and tracking is a challenging task in real-world crowded scenes. In this paper, we have presented an online multiple people tracking-by-detection approach with a single camera.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Enhancing wind speed prediction in wind farms through ordinal classification

open access: yesEnergy and AI
This paper presents and evaluates two novel ordinal classification methods for wind speed prediction, considering three prediction time-horizons: 1h, 4h, and 8h.

Opportunities and challenges of supervised machine learning for the classification of motor evoked potentials according to muscles

open access: yesBMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making, 2023
Background Even for an experienced neurophysiologist, it is challenging to look at a single graph of an unlabeled motor evoked potential (MEP) and identify the corresponding muscle.

Handling Missing Values Based on Similarity Classifiers and Fuzzy Entropy Measures

open access: yesElectronics, 2022
Handling missing values (MVs) and feature selection (FS) are vital preprocessing tasks for many pattern recognition, data mining, and machine learning (ML) applications, involving classification and regression problems. The existence of MVs in data badly affects making decisions. Hence, MVs have to be taken into consideration during preprocessing tasks

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.
