Reliability of Verbal Handoff Assessment and Handoff Quality Before and After Implementation of a Resident Handoff Bundle [PDF]

open access: yesAcademic Pediatrics, 2016
1) To develop validity evidence for the use of the Verbal Handoff Assessment Tool (VHAT) and examine the reliability of VHAT scores, and 2) to determine whether implementation of a resident handoff bundle (RHB) was associated with improved verbal patient handoffs among pediatric resident physicians. In a pre-post design, prospectively audio recorded ...

Systematic Review of Intraoperative Anesthesia Handoffs and Handoff Tools

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 2021
Intraoperative handoffs between anesthesia clinicians are critical for care continuity. However, such handoffs pose a significant threat to patient safety. This systematic review synthesizes the empirical evidence on the (a) effect of intraoperative handoffs on outcomes and (b) effect of intraoperative handoff tools on outcomes ...

Optimal handoff control: incorporating handoff delay

2000 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference. Conference Record (Cat. No.00TH8540), 2002
The design of handoff algorithms for cellular communication systems based on signal-strength and distance measurements is studied within a hybrid system framework. It is shown that a previously proposed algorithm which trades off between the expected number of handoffs and the expected number of signal degradations suffers from excessive handoff delay.

Priority handoff analysis

IEEE 43rd Vehicular Technology Conference, 1994
A correct boundary condition of terminal mobility, called the biased sampling formula, is derived. The biased sampling formula is used in determining the speeds of cell-crossing terminals. Based on this formula, a different analysis approach with low computational complexity and high accuracy is proposed.

Nurse Handoff Communication

Seminars in Oncology Nursing, 2017
To describe the communication behaviors identified by nurses as key to a competent patient handoff at change of shift.Qualitative analysis of nurse descriptions of best and worst handoffs from the incoming and outgoing nursing perspective.Competent, quality nursing handoffs include specific information exchange and socioemotional (relational ...

TCP with Explicit Handoff Notification for a Seamless Vertical Handoff

2008
This paper proposes a new variant of TCP for seamless vertical handoffs in heterogeneous wireless/mobile networks, which exploits explicit handoff notifications to alert handoff types and packet losses due to handoffs for efficient congestion control and packet error recovery mechanisms.

Handoff in Cellular Systems

IEEE Personal Communications, 1998
Handoff is an essential element of cellular communications. Efficient handoff algorithms are a cost-effective way of enhancing the capacity and QoS of cellular systems. This article presents different aspects of handoff and discusses handoff related features of cellular systems.

Comparison of a Nurse-Nurse Handoff Mnemonic With Real-World Handoffs

Journal of Nursing Care Quality, 2020
Background: Communication failures, including clinical handoff or clinical handover errors, contribute to 80% of all serious preventable adverse events each year. The N-PAS, N = Nurse, P = Patient Summary, A = Action Plan, and S = Synthesis, is a flexible standardized clinical handoff tool for nurses.
