Systematic Review of Intraoperative Anesthesia Handoffs and Handoff Tools
Anesthesia & Analgesia, 2021Intraoperative handoffs between anesthesia clinicians are critical for care continuity. However, such handoffs pose a significant threat to patient safety. This systematic review synthesizes the empirical evidence on the (a) effect of intraoperative handoffs on outcomes and (b) effect of intraoperative handoff tools on outcomes.

Optimal handoff control: incorporating handoff delay
2000 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference. Conference Record (Cat. No.00TH8540), 2002The design of handoff algorithms for cellular communication systems based on signal-strength and distance measurements is studied within a hybrid system framework. It is shown that a previously proposed algorithm which trades off between the expected number of handoffs and the expected number of signal degradations suffers from excessive handoff delay.

IEEE 43rd Vehicular Technology Conference, 1994
A correct boundary condition of terminal mobility, called the biased sampling formula, is derived. The biased sampling formula is used in determining the speeds of cell-crossing terminals. Based on this formula, a different analysis approach with low computational complexity and high accuracy is proposed.

Comparison of a Nurse-Nurse Handoff Mnemonic With Real-World Handoffs
Journal of Nursing Care Quality, 2020Background: Communication failures, including clinical handoff or clinical handover errors, contribute to 80% of all serious preventable adverse events each year. The N-PAS, N = Nurse, P = Patient Summary, A = Action Plan, and S = Synthesis, is a flexible standardized clinical handoff tool for nurses.

TCP with Explicit Handoff Notification for a Seamless Vertical Handoff
2008This paper proposes a new variant of TCP for seamless vertical handoffs in heterogeneous wireless/mobile networks, which exploits explicit handoff notifications to alert handoff types and packet losses due to handoffs for efficient congestion control and packet error recovery mechanisms.

Implementing Handoff Communication
Journal For Nurses in Staff Development (JNSD), 2011Healthcare systems are seeking assistance from other well-known industries for a solution to issues related to handoff communication, the system for relaying patient information from one caregiver to another. Although the handoff should provide accurate information about a patient's care, treatment, services, and condition, inconsistencies in ...

Handoffs: A story in evolution
Journal of Hospital Medicine, 2015In this issue of the Journal of Hospital Medicine, the results of 2 inpatient handoff studies further shape our evolving understanding of in-hospital care transitions. Schouten and colleagues, report no difference in adverse outcomes when admissions were handed off to the primary team using face-to-face compared to non–face-to-face interactions ...

Standardized Postoperative Handoff Tool to Improve Handoff Quality
Effective communication between healthcare providers is an essential element in the delivery of safe patient care. Loss of relevant information can occur during all phases of patient care but is most inclined to occur during the handoff from the ...
