A model of handwriting

Biological Cybernetics, 1987
The research reported here is concerned with hand trajectory planning for the class of movements involved in handwriting. Previous studies show that the kinematics of human two-joint arm movements in the horizontal plane can be described by a model which is based on dynamic minimization of the square of the third derivative of hand position (jerk ...

Handwriting matching and its application to handwriting synthesis

Eighth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR'05), 2005
Since it is extremely expensive to collect a large volume of handwriting samples, synthesized data are often used to enlarge the training set. We argue that, in order to generate good handwriting samples, a synthesis algorithm should learn the shape deformation characteristics of handwriting from real samples. In this paper, we present a point matching

ROBOTIC HANDWRITING

International Journal of Humanoid Robotics, 2005
Handwriting has always been considered an important human task, and accordingly it has attracted the attention of researchers working in biomechanics, physiology, and related fields. There exist a number of studies on this area. This paper considers the human–machine analogy and relates robots with handwriting.

Designing a Handwriting Reader

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1983
Computer recognition of cursive handwriting is complisated by the lack of letter separation. In an attempt to gain insight on the cursive problem, the simpler problem of recognizing separated hand-written letters is addressed here. A warp-based character matching technique is employed with dictionary lookup, using a 16 000 word vocabulary.
