Handwritten character segmentation for Kannada scripts

2012 World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies, 2012
Character segmentation has become a crucial task for character recognition in many OCR systems. It is an important step because incorrectly segmented characters are unlikely to be recognized correctly. For segmenting a cursive scripts leads more challenging because of presence of more touching characters.

Handwritten character recognition of Odia script

2016 International Conference on Signal Processing, Communication, Power and Embedded System (SCOPES), 2016
This paper presents a character recognition system of handwritten Odia script. Although, a lot of research has been carried out in handwritten character recognition, not considerable research has been carried out to recognize handwritten Odia characters. In this work we have attempted to classify 36 basic Odia consonants.

Challenges in Segmentation of Text in Handwritten Gurmukhi Script

2010
The scanned image of the text is not of any use for user, because that image is not editable. One can not make any change if required to the scanned document. This provides a food for thought for the theory of optical character recognition (OCR). OCR is nothing but character recognition of a segmented part of the scanned image.

Word-Level Handwritten Script Identification from Multi-script Documents

2014
In this paper, we present the directional discrete cosine transform (DCT) based rotation invariant features for word-level handwritten script identification. Our aim in this paper is two folds: one is to validate the effectiveness of the directional DCT (D-DCT) in extracting edge information of the studied word image and another is to provide rotation ...

Separating Indic Scripts with matra for Effective Handwritten Script Identification in Multi-Script Documents

International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 2017
We present a novel approach for separating Indic scripts with ‘matra’, which is used as a precursor to advance and/or ease subsequent handwritten script identification in multi-script documents. In our study, among state-of-the-art features and classifiers, an optimized fractal geometry analysis and random forest are found to be the best performer to ...

Word-Level Script Identification from Handwritten Multi-script Documents

2015
In this paper, a robust word-level handwritten script identification technique has been proposed. A combination of shape based and texture based features are used to identify the script of the handwritten word images written in any of five scripts namely, Bangla, Devnagari, Malayalam, Telugu and Roman.

Script independent handwritten numeral recognition

IET International Conference on Visual Information Engineering (VIE 2006), 2006
This paper presents an off-line handwritten recognition system for numerals that is independent of the script. Numeral set from five major Indian language and English language are selected for recognition. Wavelets that have been progressively used in pattern recognition and many character recognition systems are used in our system to extract the ...

Real-Time Segmentation of On-Line Handwritten Arabic Script

2014 14th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2014
Abstract —Real-time performance is necessary inapplications involving on-line handwriting recognition. However, conventional approaches usually wait until the entirecurve is traced out before starting the analysis, inevitablycausing delays in the recognition process.

Handwritten Indic Script Identification – A Multi-level Approach

2019
Script identification is an emerging document analysis problem where we identify scripts type from multilingual documents. It is well known that there are 22 official languages in India and 11 scripts are used to write them. Traditional approaches for script identification consider all the scripts together and perform a classification at single level ...
