Handwritten Text Line Segmentation by Shredding Text into its Lines
2009 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2009In this paper, we propose a novel technique to segment handwritten document images into text lines by shredding their surface with local minima tracers. Our approach is based on the topological assumption that for each text line, there exists a path from one side of the image to the other that traverses only one text line.

External word segmentation of off-line handwritten text lines
Pattern Recognition, 1994Abstract Techniques are described to separate a line of unconstrained (written in a natural manner) handwritten text into words. When the writing style is unconstrained, recognition of individual components may be unreliable so they must be grouped together into word hypotheses, before recognition algorithms (which may require dictionaries) can be ...

A Variational Bayes Method for Handwritten Text Line Segmentation
2009 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2009Text line segmentation in unconstrained handwritten documents remains a challenge because handwritten text lines are multi-skewed and not obviously separated. This paper presents a new approach based on the variational Bayes (VB) framework for text line segmentation.

A Model Based Text Line Segmentation Method for Off-line Handwritten Documents
2010 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2010Text line segmentation is one of the important steps for offline handwritten text / handwriting recognition. This paper describes a novel method of text line segmentation based on the physical process of writing. The basic concept behind this segmentation method is: two successive handwritten text-line are always non-intersecting.

Influence of text line segmentation in Handwritten Text Recognition
2015 13th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), 2015Text line segmentation is the process by which text lines in a document image are localized and extracted. It is an important step in off-line Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) given that the input of these systems is the line image of the text to be transcribed.

On-line text/drawings segmentation of handwritten patterns
Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR '93), 2002A simple and fast segmentation of text and line drawings which exploits the characteristics of online handwritten patterns is presented. Many attempts have been made on text/figure segmentation in offline research, but none in online. In online environment, mode selection is easily employed to input characters and drawings commongly.
