Handwritten Document Offline Text Line Segmentation

Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA'05), 2005
In this paper, a method of text segmentation into lines of text known as cut text minimization (CTM) is described. Results applying the CTM method to the NIST data base examples of fifty two word handwritten paragraphs of the American Constitutions are given. The method uses a modified projection method to obtain starting points.

Text Line Segmentation in Handwritten Documents with Generative Adversarial Networks

2021 International Conference on INnovations in Intelligent SysTems and Applications (INISTA), 2021
In document analysis and recognition applications, segmenting the text lines accurately is a crucial step. Text line segmentation in handwritten documents is still a challenging task because of numerous factors that can decrease the segmentation accuracy.

Segmentation of Historical Handwritten Documents into Text Zones and Text Lines

2014 14th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2014
In order to achieve accurate text recognition performance for historical handwritten document images, robust and efficient page segmentation is necessary. In this paper, we propose a text zone detection followed by a text line segmentation method suitable for historical handwritten documents.

An Improved Handwritten Text Line Segmentation Technique

2011
Document image segmentation to textlines is a decisive stage towards unconstrained handwritten document recognition. In this paper, an improvised scheme for handwritten text line segmentation is proposed. The proposed method is an improvised method to Alaei et al., 2010 [1] by applying block separation and edge detection process.

A New Method for Line Segmentation of Handwritten Hindi Text

2010 Seventh International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations, 2010
In this paper, we have discussed the new method for Line Segmentation of Handwritten Hindi text. The method is based on header line detection, base line detection and contour following technique. No preprocessing like skew correction, thinning or noise removal has been done on the data. The purpose of this paper is three fold.

Text line segmentation of unconstrained handwritten Kannada script

Proceedings of the 2011 International Conference on Communication, Computing & Security, 2011
Separating text lines in handwritten documents remains a challenge because the text lines are often varying skewed and curved. In this paper, we propose a novel method for text line segmentation of unconstrained handwritten Kannada script. The proposed method consists of two phases.

Lines segmentation and word extraction of Arabic handwritten text

Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Smart City Applications, 2018
Words are often a succession of sub-words (characters, connected components) separated by spaces, in Arabic handwritten its spaces are divided into two types: the first type represents the spaces that separate two connected components of the same word (within-word).

A Morphological Approach to Persian Handwritten Text Line Segmentation

2014 UKSim-AMSS 16th International Conference on Computer Modelling and Simulation, 2014
This paper deals with extracting lines in handwritten Persian texts. In the presented method, at first, oblique lines and dots pertaining to words that are the main causes of two lines sticking to each other are eliminated. Then, using morphological operations, the remaining components of lines stick to one another.

A Morphological Approach for Text-Line Segmentation in Handwritten Documents

2010 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2010
Document image segmentation to text lines is a critical stage towards unconstrained handwritten document recognition. Although morphological operations proved to be effective in processing machine-printed documents for several issues, similar methods for unconstraint-handwritten documents lack accuracy.

Segmentation of text lines into words for Gujarati handwritten text

2010 International Conference on Signal and Image Processing, 2010
A presentation on attempt to extract words from handwritten text lines in Gujarati script is hereby submitted. The very cursive nature of most Indian scripts makes the word extraction process a very critical one for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) activity.
