Haptic wind

Proceedings of the 2008 International Conference on Advances in Computer Entertainment Technology, 2008
A new wearable haptic system is proposed for interactive immersive Virtual Reality (VR) installations. The core of the system is a common cooling CPU fan attached to a user hand, tracked in 3D, and operated from a host computer. The proposed system is suitable for entertainment applications where immersed VR users interact with fuzzy, cloud-like or ...

Haptics for and by Hydraulics

RO-MAN 2007 - The 16th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication, 2007
The haptic interaction with machines occupies orders of magnitude in size and power. Some of the most powerful machines are hydraulic and can benefit from the natural communication channel of haptics. Hydraulics can also provide interactions on a human scale with fine spatial resolution. In this talk, these extremes are addressed and the challenges and

Haptic vision - vision-based haptic exploration

Object recognition supported by user interaction for service robots, 2003
Recently, there are growing needs for haptic exploration to estimate and extract physical object properties such as mass, friction, elasticity, relational constraints etc.. In this paper we propose a novel paradigm, we call haptic vision, which is a vision-based haptic exploration approach toward an automatic construction of reality-based virtual space

Transparent Haptics

2012
This paper describes a transparent haptic feedback interface composed of a transparent haptic actuator and a transparent pressure sensor. The transparency values of the haptic actuator and the pressure sensor are 0.81 and 0.95 respectively. Since the pressure sensor is like a thin film, the haptic actuator is overlaid with the sensor film.

A Haptic System for the Lucs Haptic Hand I

2005
This paper describes a system for haptic object categorization. It consists of a robotic hand, the LUCS Haptic Hand I, together with software modules that to some extent simulate the functioning of the primary and the secondary somatosensory cortices. The haptic system is the first one in a project at LUCS aiming at studying haptic perception.
