A haptic touchscreen interface for mobile devices

Proceedings of the 15th ACM on International conference on multimodal interaction, 2013
In this paper, we present a haptic touchscreen interface for mobile devices. A surface actuator composed of two parallel plates is mounted between a touch panel and a display module. It generates haptic feedback when a user input on a touch screen. The electrostatic force is generated when two parallel plates are charged and this phenomenon causes ...

Haptic Device Working with an Electrorheological Fluid

Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 1999
A haptic device based on an electrorheological fluid has been designed and tested. The device is similar to ajoystick which controls the motion of a cursor on a computer screen. In electric fields of different strength the shear stress of the electrorheological fluid is increased accordingly, which is perceived by the user by different resistance ...

Experimental haptic device with force control

Proceedings of the Fifth International Workshop on Robot Motion and Control, 2005. RoMoCo '05., 2005
The force control is important part of robot control systems. There are two main methods of force control: impedance and admittance control. This paper presents an experimental set-up for impedance method verification. The impedance control is based on the assumption that the operator motion input is measured, and subsequently, the reaction force is ...

A haptic device based on an approximate plane

SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Posters, 2013
In recent years, research of haptic interface has been attracting attentions of researchers. By using haptic devices, people can easily handle 3D objects. Therefore, it is expected to be used for applications such as simulation in medical fields or remote control of robots. Falcon [1] and PHANToM [2] are one of the famous haptic devices.

Haptic Device with Gripping Force Feedback

Proceedings of the 2005 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2006
This paper presents a haptic device with gripping force feedback, which is a part of the microsurgery robot system developed in our lab. This device includes a master manipulator with an interactive gripping force sensing, and a relative sensing finger located at the end of the slave manipulator.

A haptic device wearable on a human arm

IEEE Conference on Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics, 2004., 2005
In this paper, a novel 7-DOF haptic device wearable on a human arm is proposed. Different from the conventional haptic devices which employ only mechanical components, the proposed wearable haptic device is formed by both mechanical links/joints and human bones/joints.

Design of unit for haptic device on foot

2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2012
Walking and traveling are popular recreation activities for the elderly in Japan. These activities are also mild exercises and have good effects for their health. However, people suffering from physical and / or cognitive disorders have a difficulty in going out and walking in real environments.

The dynamics and control of a haptic interface device

IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1994
Haptic interface devices are machines that are controlled by the human arm contact forces. These devices are necessary elements of virtual reality machines. These devices may be programmed to give the human arm the sensation of forces associated with various arbitrary maneuvers. As examples, these devices can give the human the sensation that he/she is

Passivity control of a passive haptic device

2004 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37566), 2005
In this paper, we propose an energy-based stability control of a passive haptic device equipped with passive actuators such as an electric brake. Unstable behavior is observed even in the passive haptic system due to time delay mainly arising from the slow update rate of the virtual environment.

Development of the Haptic Device for a Hepatectomy Simulator

2015
In this study, a system for a hepatectomy simulator was developed. The system consists of 2 haptic devices, a visual display, a depth sensor , and a control PC. One of the haptic devices is used for left hand. A silicon rubber mock-up of the lobe of a liver is attached to the end effector of the haptic device.
