Bringing haptic technology to automobiles

ATZautotechnology, 2002
Using force feedback technology, a haptics-based system can simulate sensations such as the feel of a button turning, or a toggle or switch clicking. In an automotive application, it provides a single user interface to replace numerous vehicle function controls, such as dials, buttons and switches, yet still maintains the tactile sensation of each ...

Using Haptic Technology for Education in Chemistry

2015 Fifth International Conference on e-Learning (econf), 2015
In recent years the field of haptic and gesture studies is expanding and improvements are being made by developing, testing and refining devices along with software to give a sense of touch or to use gestures to interact and "feel" three dimensional virtual objects. Such technologies have a significant role to play in education.

The Role of Haptic Technology in the Development of Aesthetic Driven Products

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2008
This paper presents a haptic system the authors have developed for shape exploration in the field of industrial design. The system consists of a novel haptic-based digital technology, allowing designers to add the tactile experience to the visual one. The haptic interface developed allows designers to see and haptically feel through free hand motions ...

Combining haptic and braille technologies

Proceedings of the second annual ACM conference on Assistive technologies - Assets '96, 1996
This article describes design issues for a bi-dimensional single cell braille display, called Pantobraille, combining a standard braille cell with a force feedback device developed as part of the Cffl's PC-Access project. The Pantobraille, with a 10xl6cm workspace, allows the user to place the pointer on a ...

Virtual Haptic Map Using Haptic Display Technology for Visually Impaired

2010
We propose a new virtual haptic map system for visually impaired persons that uses a force display device and a GPS receiver. This system can haptically display the roads, city blocks, and buildings which are automatically constructed from a numerical map in DXF format and the information of current location from a GPS receiver.
