An Adaptive Human Pilot Model With Reaction Time Delay for Enhanced Adaptive Control in Piloted Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This work introduces an adaptive human pilot model that captures pilot time‐delay effects in adaptive control systems. The model enables the prediction of pilot–controller interactions, facilitating safer integration and improved design of adaptive controllers for piloted applications.

Propensity to trust shapes perceptions of comforting touch between trustworthy human and robot partners

open access: yesScientific Reports
Touching a friend to comfort or be comforted is a common prosocial behaviour, firmly based in mutual trust. Emphasising the interactive nature of trust and touch, we suggest that vulnerability, reciprocity and individual differences shape trust and ...

A Review of Recent Literature on Audio-Based Pseudo-Haptics

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Immersive virtual learning environments (iVLEs), particularly serious games and virtual simulations, typically ignore psychomotor skills development, partly due to the difficulty and cost associated with accurately replicating touch.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Sensory Perception During Partial Pseudo-Haptics Applied to Adjacent Fingers

open access: yesMultimodal Technologies and Interaction
Pseudo-haptics, the phenomenon of creating a simulated tactile sensation by introducing a discrepancy between a voluntary movement and its visual feedback, is well known. Typically, when inducing pseudo-haptics, the same control-display ratio (C/D ratio)

Haptic-GeoZui3D: Exploring the Use of Haptics in AUV Path Planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We have developed a desktop virtual reality system that we call Haptic-GeoZui3D, which brings together 3D user interaction and visualization to provide a compelling environment for AUV path planning.

DockPro: A VR-Based Tool for Protein-Protein Docking Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Proteins are large molecules that are vital for all living organisms and they are essential components of many industrial products. The process of binding a protein to another is called protein-protein docking.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.
