Hard Carbons as Anodes in Sodium-Ion Batteries: Sodium Storage Mechanism and Optimization Strategies

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are regarded as promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in the field of energy, especially in large-scale energy storage systems.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Research progress on biomass-based hard-carbon anode materials for sodium storage

open access: yes工程科学学报
Sodium-ion batteries are expected to gradually replace lithium-ion batteries in large-scale energy storage and two-wheeled electric vehicles because of their excellent low-temperature performance, cost advantages, and high safety.

Tannin-Derived Hard Carbon for Stable Lithium-Ion Anode

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Graphite anodes are well established for commercial use in lithium-ion battery systems. However, the limited capacity of graphite limits the further development of lithium-ion batteries.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Study on the lignin-derived sp 2–sp 3 hybrid hard carbon materials and the feasibility for industrial production

open access: yesScientific Reports
Hard carbon has been widely used in anode of lithium/sodium ion battery, electrode of supercapacitor, and carbon molecular sieve for CO2 capture and hydrogen storage.

Enhanced storage performance of a low-cost hard carbon derived from biomass

open access: yesCarbon Trends
Hard Carbon is the most widely used negative electrode material for sodium-ion batteries today. Achieving high storage capacity and increasing the plateau capacity, as opposed to the sloping profile, are crucial for enhancing energy density of the full ...

Achieving high initial Coulombic efficiency for competent Na storage by microstructure tailoring from chiral nematic nanocrystalline cellulose

open access: yesCarbon Energy, 2022
Although it has been proven that porous, heteroatomic, and defective structures improve Na storage performance, they also severely affect the initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) due to the huge irreversible capacity in the first cycle, which always limits

Application of Diluted Electrode Method to Sodium-ion Insertion into Hard Carbon Electrode

open access: yesElectrochemistry, 2023
Herein, the diluted-electrode method is applied to a hard carbon (HC) electrode to estimate sodium-ion (Na+) insertion kinetics. As metallic nickel (Ni) particles do not accommodate Na+ ions in the potential range of 0–2.0 V vs.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.
