Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Influence of Shot Peening on Surface Durability of Case-Hardened Steel Gears

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2007
In order to investigate the influence of shot peening on the surface durability of case-hardened steel gears, the case-hardened steel gears shot-peened with different shot velocities and shot diameters were fatigue-tested using a power circulating type ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Comparison of instrumental methods for measuring seed hardness of food-grade soybean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Seed hardness is an important factor in determining soybean suitability for natto production. There is no established methodology for testing seed texture of soybeans.

Softening Behavior of Hardness and Surface Fatigue of Rolling-Sliding Contact in the Case of Developed Alloy Steels

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2009
To get high performance, downsizing and weight saving of the power transmission systems, the improvement of machine elements has been required. In this study, case-carburized gear materials for a high load-carrying capacity were developed.

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.

Sensitivity study of crack driving force predictions in heterogeneous welds using Vickers hardness maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Weld flaws often require an engineering critical assessment (ECA) to judge on the necessity for weld repair. ECA is a fracture mechanics based prediction of the integrity of welds under operating conditions.

Chemical Hardness, Linear Response, and Pseudopotential Transferability

open access: yes, 1995
We propose a systematic method of analyzing pseudopotential transferability based on linear-response properties of the free atom, including self-consistent chemical hardness and polarizability.

Hardness and Algorithms for Rainbow Connectivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An edge-colored graph G is rainbow connected if any two vertices are connected by a path whose edges have distinct colors. The rainbow connectivity of a connected graph G, denoted rc(G), is the smallest number of colors that are needed in order to make G

Surface Durability of Developed Cr-Mo-Si Steel under Rolling-Sliding Contact

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2008
To develop case-carburized gears with high loading capacity, the surface durability of a developed Cr-Mo-Si steel (with 1 mass% Si added in the chemical composition) was studied.
